Its not like in the movies.
I believe it is a barbituate that relaxes you and makes you all happy and loosey. Some people are trained to resist such methods and often the drug just makes people ramble about nothing.
Use of such drugs is considered torture and was banned in the 50s or 60s.

one problem with "pent" like any drug is dosage control and idiosyncratic reaction.
ok you have your target under control and you dose the target,
and you get two hours of why nascar drivers are better than indy car drivers... etc.
the mind is a junkyard "pent" gives you access but there is no index
fine, you use the appropriate dose for the targets mass...... and they drop dead on you.
so you under dose, get no effective response, add some more
and they drop dead on you.
you use the correct dosage from the tables... get an hour of baseball statistics, and they stop breathing.
you dose the target, they talk about the info you want to know
and give you their phantasy power trip version.
and its no good in court anyway.

You have probably recieved it before. IV administered to knock you out for surgery. That's what I got for wisdom teeth removal with a healthy booster of Valium in the line first. Don't even know where you are when you wake up.

It just makes me sleepy. :) I much prefer Nitrous Oxide!

Sodium Thiopental (pentathol) is a fast-acting barbituate and one of the first "modern" anesthetics that really helped move surgery into the modern age.
Unlike ether and chloroform, the common anesthetics of previous years, it acts VERY rapidly, induces a more complete sleep, has muscle relaxant properties (making surgery easier), and exits the body fairly rapidly, making for much faster recovery times. A lot safer than chloroform or ether, too, because dosing can be controlled a lot more easily and, with no vapors, it's not explosive like chloroform or ether.
Because it's a barbituate, lower doses can make people VERY susceptible to suggestion. I'm pretty certain that it's been used as an aide to "brainwashing" people -- implanting memories, autonomic suggestions, weird stuff like that.
As a method of questioning someone, it's considered to be more effective than physical torture but less effective than gaining someone's trust.

I was watching a show on the History Channel last night, and they made mention of this stuff being used on G.I.'s. That's a weird chemical.
