Made it today in my first bow making lesson. Osage orange (Bois d'arc ) cut from my own farm hedgerow. 66" (string groove to string groove) and 50#@28" with a deerskin handle wrap.
Next up are some lessons in arrowcraft and flint knapping.
I'm also going to get some billets cut from a large log for a laminated longbow with bamboo or hickory backing.
I'm really psyched about this! I'm going to kill a deer with it.
I'll try to get some pics up but won't be till next week.

Congratulations on your first bow. I made one several years at Friendship during a bowmaking class. We were also taught how to make arrows. This year was spent learning to make moccasins & flintknapping. Funny but the older I get the more archaic I've become. It's truly been a fun path from full-auto to flintlock to neolithic technology. Maybe one day I'll even try making an atlatl.

One thing I never understood about flint knapping.

What kind of ransom do you usually get?

Jim, one day you will be called to answer for your crimes against humanity.

Do good deeds. Lots of 'em...'cause you have a lot to answer for.
