One of the local dealers has an interesting-looking rifle. The barrel and action is a Savage Model 10 (don't recall if it is an FP or not), but the stock is something else. First off the whole thing must weigh 12-13 pounds. It has a black synthetic stock which says something like:

"Made for Savage by Choate for Major John Plaster"

The stock has a large, kind of rectangular forearm. The butt is adjustable and has a large squarish opening just behind the trigger.

It's all topped off by a TASCO adjustable scope.

anyone have any ideas what this is?

Is this rifle used lnib, because it sounds like a 10FP LE2 model, but those dont come from the factory with a tasco scope.

Is the tasco a super sniper model 10x fixed power???????

Does the rifle have the accu trigger????, and an oversize bolt handle???

I have the Le1 with accutrigger and I put better stock in it and added a Nikon 14X AO scope and I love mine.

Sounds like a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock to me. When I had my 110 in .30-06 (which I traded for my 10FP in .308), I put one of those stocks on it. It was a nice stock- it was really sturdy and stable and it reduced felt recoil a lot, but it was a bit too heavy for my tastes. Also, I didn't like that silly "Made by Major John Plaster" billboard on the side, so I sanded it off and spray painted the thing black. The other thing I wasn't too crazy about was the texturing on the grip- I thought that was a bit too sharp and that it dug into my hands enough to make holding the thing uncomfortable at times.

With the trigger you describe, it is one of the newer Accutrigger models.

"Lookie Here:"

That's almost it. The butt is correct, but the weight is TOO low by about 3-4 pounds. Of course, it needs a scope also.

There are areas in the Choate stock that can be filled with lead to help balance/weigh down the stock to the user's liking. Could be the LE2A (configured) gun you saw was weighted down just so.
