Bought a Cetme!!!!!!

I know what everybody thinks about Century guns but I may have gotten a good one.

My local gunshop, Larry's in Hunsville, put Century Cetme/G3's on sale this month for $333.00. I couldn't resist, I bought one. Of the 5 he had left on the shelf I got the best one. The fit and finish are the best I've seen on any Century gun. Only the Bolt doesn't look new. The barrel looks new and the rifling sharp. The finish looks more like Gunkote than enamel, not sure what it is. The welds are clean and even. The magazine that came with it was the only thing covered in Cosmoline (thank God). I think it was added by Larry's. The pics I'll attempt to attach are from a cheap camera and are examples of poor photography. The rifle looks much better.

I only test fired it with one magazine full of ammo. It fed and functioned flawlessly. I did not test for accuracy but all my shots seemed to hit where I wanted them to go. I'll be sighting it in later this coming week. Recoil was no worse than an M-1 Carbine. Scary part is that if it continues as well as it has started I'll favor it over my FAL in short order.

Loving this rifle.

Scott

Cool! I was lucky enough to find a really good one too. Well it wasn`t all luck,I did a lot of reasearch and dug through a mountain of them before I found the one I bought. It`s a great feeling buying a $1200 rifle for a little over $300 bucks though isn`t it? It even works 100% with $3 G-5 aluminum hi caps. You gotta love it. :D Marcus

I've heard that those things won't function properly unless you hold them tight and securely. Is it true? If it is, then what happens if you shot it from the hip? Great buy though.

You have a great rifle there. Century has some QC issues but what they don't screw up is pretty darn good. Only problem is the magazine release but a quick Dremel and a Tac Release should solve that. Cheaperthandirt.com has some G3 alloy mags. Great mags, tough and a LOT lighter than those hulking CETME things. I have to beat mine in though.

I've never heard of that and I have never had such a problem. I've even seen some people bump firing, no problems unless they had on to begin with.

I watched somebody shoot one at the range yesterday while I was shooting my FAL, I was slightly jealous because I seem to have overtimed my muzzle brake when I installed it causing the barrel to kick to the right when I fire it, this made it hard to control when just trying to blast off a mag, he was having no trouble at all repeatedly dumping full mags fairly accurately.

It was a Century, and he said the only trouble he has had was with the mags he got with it, buying surplus H&K mags fixed the problem.

I will get the MB fixed soon though, and then I'll feel better, because at 100 yards controlled, rested fire, I filled some poor paper man's head with holes easily.

So G3 mags work perfectly? I thought that the CETME could only use CETME mags, and the G3 could take either.

Technically true but Century "CETMES" (especially the "black widows", that use G-3 style sythetic stocks) are actually CETME/G3 hybrids. They use the same Century hybrid recievers for both their G3s and CETMES so they both have an equal chance of having either (or neither, after all we`re talking about Century here) type of mag function in them. Mine even functions 100% with the super cheaply made $17 (I got mine for $10!) 30rd. mags CTD sells. Marcus
