A friend told me this evening he saw a magazine cover with a .50 caliber 1911 featured, but he couldn't recall which magazine it was. Does anybody know anything aboutthis? Is it a real, production gun available for purchase? Is it a standard sized 1911, or has it been scaled up to Desert Eagle proportions to handle the larger round?

I don't know much, but it is not scaled up to Desert Eagle size. Your friend was right about it being on the cover, but I don't remember which magazine either. I did see it at Wal-mart at about 1:30 A.M. this morning, so I'd bet it is still there tonight.

Do a search for .50 GI and you`ll find all you want to know about it. Marcus

I believe it was American Handgunner. I just saw it at Walmart tonight and thought pretty much the same thing...a .50 in a 1911? Had to pass it by though because I was in a hurry.

.50 GI is the round you're looking for. IIRC, it's designed with a headstamp and rim that is the same as a regular .45 ACP.

The .50 G.I. 1911 is from Guncrafter Industries, as pointed out by Kruzr. Pricey is a good description. Worth it? I dunno. I want one, though.
A hard look at it on TFL. (http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147946)

I still think this would make a better lever action carbine or even bolt action carbine, than a pistol round.

$2895 is retail on this gun. It seems a bit too high for me for the time being.
