“ROME - Do-it-yourself justice has been introduced in the Italian Senate.
The citizen will be able to shoot a home intruder without risking a trial or, worse yet, jail time for homicide. A right, however not a duty: the important thing is not to 'intentionally kill the criminal who persists in threatening.' The new bill was proposed by a number of MPs of the ruling majority, who would like to 'reinforce' and modify as necessary the existing article 52 of the Penal Code which governs legitimate self-defense inside a residence.”
The article in La Repubblica goes on to say that this change in the law is necessary because the current code on self defense, in allowing “ judges to exercise an excessive degree of discretion, has essentially displaced the certainty of such a right…The sponsors of the bill explain that they ‘want to restore a citizen’s natural right of self-protection, recognized in many countries including the United States…’ ”
So much for Europeans being anti-gun sophisticates. It would seem they are beginning to see the light.
