I got something in the mail about that yesterday, but I didn't open it yet. I figured it was just another begging letter.

Not really, Larry. It is a very elite group made up of only the top 50,000,000 or so NRA members. The certificate is suitable for framing, however, I filed mine away, I think it went out this morning. ;)

Along with the certificate came a request for money, but that's only to defray the high cost of printing and mailing the certificates.

Oh, wait a sec, I guess it is just another begging-for-money letter. :D

You are able to join this L33T group only by paying a membership fee, only those who are willing to pay can call themselves member.

Ok, there's some truth to that top 50 million members bit. :neener:
But
there's a heck of a membership deal inside.
3 more years for 70 dollars (?, I think)
or upgrade to Life membership for 400 bucks (normally 750)
That, my friends, is a smoking deal.
And yeah, i went for it.

I am proud to be a member of the NRA, but would prefer to receive much less mail. I get letters about every two weeks. In my opinion it is too often, and I wish the NRA leadership would listen to their many members who would prefer less mail and less solicitations.

Email the NRA and ask them to put you on their no mail list. I did that after some member here told us about it. Doing it saved my mailman's (he's a he and so I don't have to call him a mail carrier) back. As for the Legion of Honor, can't you buy them on Ebay?

Got mine today also. The offer was to upgrade from Patron to Benefactor membership for $250 instead of the usual $1500. I'm thinking about doing it since I haven't given much to the NRA recently. This is a good time to kick in, being an election year and all. Also, I can then legitimately tell the Republican solicitors that my contributions are going to NRA.:p

Do they have an online reference for the upgrade offer on the Life to Patron level??
