Ever feel like you don't NEED any more handguns?

Every time I buy a new handgun, I keep telling myself - this is the last gun you need. There's no possible need for any more guns. You are all set buddy. And every time there's something new waiting for you around the corner...
Now I am set as follows - I have a good .45 1911, I have a good 9mm BHP, I have a good target .22 Ruger MkII, and I have a good compact sized 9x18Mak just in case.
Yesterday I checked out a new Walther P99, and something tells me that I really ought to have one of them plastic guns... Do I really need a plastic gun? No I don't. That does not stop me from wanting one...

You've got a good belt gun (1911 .45) and an identically functioning redundant belt gun (P-35 9mm) in case something happens to the primary (actually have to use it and taken by the police for an indeterminate period of time, warranty/factory repairs, etc). Probably wouldn't hurt to have another small backup gun to go with your Mak. Since it wouldn't bother a J-frame to have it's nonexistant thumb safety swiped off, that may be an attractive route. Maybe an Officer's ACP? Looks like a can of worms to me. ;)
So, you need at least one more. :D You're welcome.
(After that, you may want to look into have double redundancy-- i.e., another belt gun and another backup gun. So, just in case something happens to one, you've still got a fully redundant system. No, I understand, overlooking these things is just human. You can thank me later.)

You have just got started. You really start saying you don't need anymore when you have a dedicated full sized safe for your handguns and it's about to split the welds.
Now if I can just find room to cram in the last few handguns I got to pick up next week.

What is this word "need"? I am unfamiliar with it's usage where firearms are concerned.
Seriously? Yeah, I sometimes feel that way. But I always find something I don't have. Going down the checklist
Full sized .45? Check.
Full sized .357? Check.
Snubnose .357? Check.
Semi-auto .22lr? Check.
Revolver .22lr? Check.
So, what am I missing? Well, I still don't have a single-action revolver of any sort. I also don't own a 1911. I'm pretty sure that you have to have one of each or they take your gun nut certificate away, so I'll have to get them at some point. And a semi-auto suitable for CCW. Oh, and that snubnose .357 I bought is too big, really. Need a smaller one.
Now, are there things that I prioritize first? Of course. I'm pretty sure that if I bring home one more gun before my wife gets wood floors in this house I'd better learn to like sleeping in my car. :uhoh:

Nah. I definitely don't need any more handguns. Got a coupla 1911's, a coupla 9mm, a target .22, a snubby..........what else do I need? Nothin'.
So why, oh why do I keep thinking about a single action revolver in the .44-.45 caliber range? Why do I think I need that? What is wrong with me?

You sound like me about 12 guns ago. As suggested, you *need* a good revolver and a good pocket auto pistol - and back-ups for each gun you own. I'm finally past the *need* and now into the *want*.

I use to feel that way and every once in awhile I would tell my wife that I don't need any more guns to which she would always reply "Mike, quit your lying." This of course was always done good naturedly and I know now not to make that foolish statement as there will probably always be another gun that catches my fancy.
As far as actual need is concerned I do believe I really don't need any more guns but there are a few that I sure do want.;)

People will often do more for wants than needs.
Needs - deep concealment (only in CHL areas), regular concealment (ditto), home defence (practically anywhere in the US), and a .22 LR for plinking.
Even handguns for hunting aren't really needed. Rifles and shotguns are much better.

Yes, after trying out several different handguns, Ive narrowed it down to auto pistols only, either 9mm or 45 auto, I will not buy any other calibers. I like to keep things simple and not have so many different calibers, I only shoot standard calibers.

I know for a fact I don't need any more handguns, but there are still a few I want just because. But I can actually see the end of the list for handguns. Thankfully, my wife took care of some of the categories, like big ol' Desert Eagle and the two James Bond pieces, Walther P99 and PPK/S.
What I still need handgun wise... Beretta or Taurus clone in 9mm, CZ or Witness clone, possibly in 10 MM (two birds with one stone!), maybe the new Ruger autoloader, a revolver in 45 Colt, CZ-52, Kimber Eclipse (maybe Commander size), SIG P220, and I think that is really about it that I can think of that I still want. Oh yeah, an Officer size 1911, and maybe a 1911 in .38 Super just for kicks. Hmm... yeah, that is all I can think of for now!

I passed need after the Glock 29, Glock 20, SW 642, Ruger 22/45, Ruger 10/22, Marlin .44mag, and Remington 870. I have more than this, but they were all either "wants" or "thisissuchagooddealthaticannotpassitup".
That must be why my safe is almost full and I have another rifle and another revolver on layaway.:neener:

Well, I have a rather small safe. It only has carpet of the floor, and there's room for 4 guns only - the guns I already have. One metal shelf it has I am using for ammo, magazines, and documents. So, before I get anymore handguns I would probably have to get one of them big safes. That's gonna restrain me for a while ;)
Or I could store ammo and documents in a different place, and make some room in this small safe... Hmmm...

Funny, I was thinking about this very topic today while I was completing the necessary paperwork to purchase a slightly used Sig226 chambered in 9mm.
I already had a pretty complete gun collection, Springfield 1911 .45acp, Kimber Target II 10mm, S&W 1076 10mm, Glock 22 .40s&w, S&W .357mag. But recently I kept thinking how nice it would be to have a 9mm in my collection. You know, for those times when you just want to go plinking with something cheep, but thats bigger than a .22, or for those times when the more recoil sensitive tag along with you to the range.....
At any rate, I guess I will not even try to fool myself into thinking that this will be my last, probably not even close. Heck, I already have my eye on a next to new S&W 1006...... So I guess the battle will continue, for a while longer at least.

A man really only "needs" one high-powered rifle, one shotgun, and one side arm. A man NEEDS every single flavor, caliber, color, finish, material, variation, and collectible KIND of firearm ever devised by those delightful craftsmen in the gun world. And after THAT, he still NEEDS every gun to be invented and prototyped by some genius in the making. My name is Gunz, because I lust and acquire every single gun I can afford. Ramen noodles and a veggies-only diet have helped my weight-management program whenevere I comke across a gun I "must have." Buy them all. Sort out the ones you like least later.

It's always need.
First, I needed a gun.
Then I needed a shotgun.
Then I needed a handgun.
Then I needed a semi-auto.
Then a .357 magnum.
Then I needed a 1911.
Glock.
SIG.
H&K.
And so on......
I guess I just need 'em all.
But how do you really know what you need until you've bought it?
By the time you figured out exactly what guns you really needed, you have more guns than you need. (Doesn't really ake any kind of sense, does it?)

Well, I have two 1991s, both worked by Yost. I have a BHP, soon to be worked by Yost. I have a Ruger MkII .22lr and a Remmie pumpgun in the same. I have shotguns and rifles that I can hunt with, but don't.

You know, I've had to many handguns for a while now. And not only do I not need another one, I don't want another one.
In fact the thought of getting another handgun is not only distasteful it's painful it's actually a form of punishment.
But the thing is this, I've been bad, I been very bad, and for the last week or two I've been searching for the right punishment.
First it was the S&W1911 but that wasn't punishment enough. Then I thought the Sig GSR, but I can't get them here (now)
So now I'm thinking SVI, yeah, that's about right, I've been really bad.

Relevant conversation, really happened, between two fine Marines I was lucky enough to have known - a chief warrant officer and an 45 year old Gunnery Sergeant, Vietnam Vet when they went shooting for the first time together.
CWO - "Damn Gunny, think you brought enough rifles?" - looking at his dozen or so rifles in his pickup.
GSgt - "Well sir, some of these just needed to be shot. Its been awhile."
CWO - "I thought you shoot often?"
GSgt - "I do sir, just haven't shot these particular ones in awhile."
CWO - "So Gunny, just how many guns do you own?"
GSgt - "Do you mean, all kinds, or just rifles, or just handguns, or just shotguns, or..."
CWO - "Well, just rifles... lets talk rifles for now. How many?"
GSgt - "Do you mean how many do I have here (in AZ), or back at home, or both?"
CWO - "Here... just here... how many rifles do you have here?"
GSgt - "Rifles only? Here? um... 47."
CWO - "47! You have 47 rifles, here?"
GSgt - "Yes sir. 47."
CWO - "Gunny, why on earth do you need 47 rifles?"
GSgt - grinning, "Sir, need has nothing to do with it."

Until I joined IPSC/IDPA, there was always a need for one more.
In my case, shooting competitively somehow put a damper on that "need". Don't ask me why. In fact, it REDUCED my once proud collection of thirty guns to a measley seven: my minimum standard for IPSC/IDPA, hunting and CCW.
I guess I'm not a gun nut.
