The requirements are that it needs to have a synthetic stock, and iron sights in case something happens to the scope. Other than that, I just pretty much want a regular sporter. Mostly just for deer hunting, and maybe laying some fire on the occasional milk jug at about 300-400 yards.
Any pros or cons of one over the other?

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight.

I was comparing the two when looking for a 270. The Winchester won hands down. A year later I am very happy with the Winchester.

Having said that, buy the Mod. 70.:) For a hunting rifle, the Mod. 70 safety locks the firing pin, not the trigger . A feature I want on all my hunting rifles.

I like the Remington Model 7 myself. If you're getting a short action already, why not get a lightweight short action. The Ruger M77 should also be considered in the mix. Much better scope mounting system IMO. They have the model you are looking for. KM77RSFP MKII

I was originally wanting something that was stainless as well, but i dropped that requirement because I couldn't have SS and back-up iron sights. The Ruger hadn't crossed my mind, eventhough I have owned several and have found them to be quality firearms. How much does a Ruger like the one in the pic generally go for?
