Several years ago a friend ,who is no longer with us, showed me a mexican mauser rifle that was very short by the standards of all the other 98 mauser rifles I've seen. This little rifle was chambered for the 7x57 cartrige , and had a heft & feel much like an M1 carbine.
I searched the internet looking to find a rifle like it, because it was short & handy feeling, but can't find a reference to it anywhere.
Can someone please help by telling me exactly what I'm looking for?

At one time the old Golden State Arms had tons of those rifles and rented them out to the movie studios, including one doing a film about the late, great, George A. Custer.

When "Custer's" troops formed up, the first rank carried trapdoor carbines, the rest had the Mexican rifles. Had the real Custer's troops had those, I doubt the Indians would have fared so well.
