Just wanted to know what the felt recoil is on the P40. Managable? a lot more then the steelframe?

Do you think my gf of 110lbs, 5'2" will be able to handle it?

Depends on how comfortable she is with guns in general. However, 40 cal sometimes even makes big guys flinch....9mm is a perfectly acceptable self defense round, and 2nd shot target acquisitions is much faster.

I would say my friends K40 kicks about as much as my P9, while that doesn't exactly answer your question, it makes me think the P40 would kick alot . My wife(5ft7 !20lbs) carries a K9 and loves it, she shoots the P9 pretty well and I have been trying to transition her to that gun for the ease of carry(then I can justify a pm9 purchase) ;) ....tom

Originally had the P40. I now have a P9. The recoil on the P40 was just way too snappy for me. Follow up shots were way too slow. I can't imagine your girlfriend being comfortable with it. It's just way to light and short for that caliber in my opinion.

My P9 is very managable, but whenever I shoot my buddy's Ruger P89 I'm amazed. It's almost like shooting a .22 in comparison to my Kahr.

Well, we have no Kahr's. However we have a Glock 27, which is also .40 caliber. Some people say it "kicks", but my wife loves to shoot it. >.40 caliber pistols aren't so bad.< On the other hand, shooting one of those light .357's makes my hand hurt the next day.

Kentucky,

Have you shot a 357Maggie from a Taurus Ti???!!! :cuss: :what:

I shot 1 shot, and that was enough to last me a lifetime. I can even tell you how big the gun is, as the marking are still on my hand!

Yeah, as much as I like the Kahr, I don't know about shooting 40's out of something that small and light..

I can just imagine a 155grainer...

Skunk says my Steyr M40 beats up his hand already; and that has less recoil then a grock 23!

twoblink, what are your requirements w/ this gun? Would a USPc 9 fit the bill? (I gotta find converts to the HK cult!)

My wife has a Kahr MK9, which she thinks is the greatest handgun ever. I let her shoot my P9 once, she handed it back and said it kicked even more than than my H&K USP45f. I don't know about all that, but it did have a little nip to it. Since the P9 literally fell to crud, I traded Kahr for a P40. Now THAT was a sharp recoil. My wife wouldn't come near it. Every one that has ever shot it has commented on the amount of "kick" it had. Most hand it back after a shot or two, and then decline subsequent offers to fire it.

I now have a K40, which is pretty much a Kitty compared to the P40. Even the MK40 has less "kick" than the P40.

The P 40 has a very snappy recoil. I was shooting mine with a friend using medium powered 175 grain cast lead bullets and comparing it to his Glock 45 acp compacts (30 and 36 models). The P 40 had roughly 1/4 to 1/3 more felt recoil than the Glocks. I'm a fairly big guy used to shooting a 454 Casull and not recoil shy but getting the P40 back on target after a shot is definitely a challenge, being more difficult as the range increases.
