The full-sized handgun and the neutered mag

Anyone own a full-sized double-stack handgun and use nothing but 10-round mags in it? I'm talking about service pistols like the P226, Glock 17, Beretta 92F, and other wondernines.

I have a SIG P226, and usually carry it with factory hicaps. I do have a bunch of 10-round mags for it, and I'd carry the P226 even if I had nothing but neutered mags. It's bigger than it needs to be for a 10-shot pistol, but the size makes it easy to control and comfortable to handle and shoot. It also offers a longer barrel and a longer sight radius over a smaller gun.

I just remembered that I toted nothing but full-sized Berettas for years before the subcompact craze. Nowadays they call a 92FS a horse pistol, and reading some people's comments about its concealabitity characteristics, you'd think it was the size of a Desert Eagle. Good holster, good belt, no problem.

Nope..

I've got "full caps" for all my semi's.. But, the addition of a HK P2000 to my collection will change all that..:)

Our friends in PRK and HI, really have no choice. Maybe they
will let you know how it feels. TEN rounds of 9mm doesn't
get me excited. TEN rounds of 10mm (witness) or .45 (97bSA) is much better if you have to carry only ten rounds.

Myself, i had a new 92FS, just couldn't see buying expensive high
caps for it. The 2 10-shot Clinton mags just made me mad everytime i looked at them..:fire:

Nice thing about CZs, the factory hi-caps are both reasonable
and very reliable. The 15-shot factory mag is a real big attraction to most shooters looking for an economy priced 9mm, that is
also world reknown for it's quality and again, reliability.

I have no probs selling 10 shot mags to folks in CALIF. They
know that they are fresh from my new Cee-Zed's box, and
if they don't work... CZ-USA will replace them very promptly.

All of my firearms are equipped with a magazine capable of holding the number of rounds the handgun was designed to carry (or more).

I have a Glock 23 which is designed for 13 rounds and a Beretta 96 that's designed for eleven. Thanks to WB Ruger and friends, I have ten round mags for these guns.

I've bought mags for my Beretta 92fs back when they were still available. My USP 9 is a diff't story. I've got all 10 round mags for her :(

To me it's not a capacity thing, just a personal issue I can't get past. To carry a gun designed to hold 15+ shots with only ten just offends my sensibilities too much. Gotta buy pre-bans$$$ for it or pass totally :(

On the other side it wouldn't bother me a bit to own a semi-auto only AR or FN-FAL and thats pretty much the same situation no?

I just received some mags today from cdnn and cheaper than dirt.the cheaper than dirt catalog has some very nice military supplies and the 30 round pt 92 mags were only $20 each.
they are actually made of metal and function well.60 rounds close at hand isnt too bad wish they made them for my 45!:neener:

Yup, my CZ is supposed to hold more than 10 rounds, but it's a no-no here in Calif. That's too bad, but I don't feel underprotected, just out-gunned in combat shooting games!;)
Having said that, I'd be all over hi-caps if I could.

The only gun I have that has 10rd mags is my Ruger P95. I don't really use it for anything anyway, it is just an extra gun. I shoot it at the range and it is nice to have around but until I get a hi cap for it, it will just be a toy.

I would carry a smaller, lighter gun that held a few less if all I could have were 10 rounders. Why carry a full sized pistol with only 2/3 of a mag? Just carry a singel stack and save some width and weight.

I think the newer guns are focusing on these facts. The Karhs, Kel-Tecs, and others are really on the right track.

Yes, I have both a G19 and G17 with 10 rounders. It bugs me, but factory Glock hi-caps prices have really skyrocketed lately. I just buy a lot of cheap 10 rounders and load up. It stinks but what can you do?

Hmm. Seems I've got it backwards...my Glock 29 is outfitted with G20 magazines:D

I would never dream of violating such a common-sense law as the ten-round magazine limit. I mean, if we all started carrying (God forbid!) 11 or 15 or 18 rounds in our guns . . . IT WOULD BE ANARCHY! Think of the devastation to our society . . . won't somebody please think of the children?

BTW, I use "standard capacity" magazines in all my pistols.

I agree, lets get rid of those evil magazines all together!!

Surely there is some innovative company that can come up with a nice belt fed pistol. Think about it... carrying concealed while jogging? maybe only keep a 40 round strand around your waist as belt. Feeling particularly vulnerable today? Go for the Glock 26 with full out 2000 round battlepack like Jesse Ventura in Predator.

Seriously about 19 months from now we'll all know the future of hi-caps one way or the other. Funny how a piece of legislation (or lack of) will decide in one night whether that FML Pre-ban G-20 mag sitting in the drawer is worth $5, $300 or 5 years at club fed, all with the stroke of a pen :scrutiny:

Yes. While it's like driving a Suburban with the rear seats blocked off, I can still shoot and score well with it.

You guys are speaking a foreign language to me. My magazines all have the number that JMB decided was THE correct capacity--7!:D

I use the manufacturer's specs for the gun, not the politician's specs.

As a general rule, I don't like gelded magazines. The notion of using something that was once designed to be reliable but is now 'altered' to conform to ridiculous legislation just doesn't seem logical. Sure, there are different variations of gelded magazines depending on the manufacturer, and some are more reliable than others, but I still can't warm up to the idea of using them in a carry gun intended for self defense.

Why? Murphy's Law has shown that something will go wrong at the most inopportune time and I'd rather have all the odds in my favor rather than rely on the 'chance' provided by the proverbial 'gelded' magazine.

I'd prefer original capacity pre-ban magazines or abandon the platform altogether in favor of one designed around the post-ban 10 round magazine. Or better yet, move to a reliable single-stack platform.

I have hi-caps for my Glock 17 since I bought it before the ban. If I switched my carry pistol to a full sized pistol w/ 10 rd mags. I'm not going to buy hi-caps for $50 & up. For the price of 1 hi-cap I could get 2 or 3-10 rd mags. So I carry 2 xtra mags instead of 1.

Don't have any firearm that holds more than 10 rounds (Buckmark is my "hi-cap" pistol), but I may get a CZ-75 one day. And, when that day comes, I'll find as many standard capacity mags as I can.

Why settle for "dimished-capacity mags"?...:D

I stash 'standard-cap' mags for all of my pistols. Use the neutered mags at the range, to keep from wearing out the standard capacity mags. The USP45s only have 10-rounders, as I am not sure about the 12-round 'pre-ban' status. Too much legal hassle for 2 more rounds.

Also, just purchased a sig pro in 357SIG. LEOs can get them in 12 round, but I am only allowed the 10-round limit.
