The tactics needed will vary all over the map, mainly on two factors:

1) What county are you in?

2) Do you live within the city limits of an incorporated city that runs their own independent police force?

That last question can be tricky: some towns hire the sheriff's office for patrol services, and the sheriff sets up a "substation" that looks exactly like a town PD, but isn't. In Danville, CA you'll find a building labeled "Danville Police Department", complete with a "Chief" who's actually a sheriff's office Lt., "police" who are really deputies, etc. I've run across dozens of these statewide. In these cases, or when the town isn't actually incorporated, your sole choice for CCW is your sheriff.

Get back to me on that and I'll show you what your options are.

Jim,

You really do need to write a book about your experiences with CA RKBA.

It really irks me that I live so close to "friendly" CCW areas.
My current residence, Riverside, is of course, in Riverside county.
I don't know how CCW friendly they are here, but I do know that nearby San Bernardino county is pretty much pro-CCW.

My other residence, Lancaster, is in LA County. No chance of getting CCW there. Of course, Lancaster just happens to be right next to Kern County!

it's been a few years, but you could try moving to a remote part of Siskiyou county east of I-5. Fill out app in Yreka, wait fifteen days, pick up permit.

But that's probably unrealistic for most people, if it even still works.

A lotta stuff I can't talk about. 10-Ring's situation is of course personal, I do NOT talk about people's "good causes" and such publicly.

Some incidents are just so laugh-out-loud funny it's ridiculous.

You could become a Liberal Dem and go into politics. That would pretty much guarantee you CCW, right?

Well, if you life in Sacramento, you are pretty much outta luck.

The good news is that if you can move to one of the surrounding counties, your chances improve dramatically.

Amador, Sutter, Yuba and most of those more rural areas are good, if not great.

Looks like we will move back to Sutter County later this year. I only hope they no longer make you live there a year before you can apply.

The Sheriffs of Sutter and Yuba counties have come out as solidly pro self defense and pro CCW.
