In case anybody in Virginia didn't know, Senator John Warner is a co-sponsor of the renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban. Virginia THR'ers, his number is 202-224-2023. His fax number is 202-224-6295. Call him. Fax him. Tell him we WILL vote against him if he continues to support this bill. Do it now. No excuses. It's two minutes of your time.

Also, if you live in Tom Davis' district, he is a co-sponsor of the House version. His number is 202-225-1492. His fax is 202-225-3071.

He's not running again and he doesn't care what Virginians think.

Warner's response to my comments on the AWB pretty much boiled down to "thanks, but I'm going to do what I want and couldn't care less whether you agree with me or not."

Not that you shouldn't continue to pressure him, mind you!

mtnbiker has it right. RINO Warner has accelerated his flight into uselessness. He's immune until, IIRC, 2007 or so, and is probably too old to run then. If he does plan to run, we'll have one helluva fight on our hands. Arrogant plick. :fire:

That's exactly what I thought about his AWB form letter. He must not be running next time because he certainly has no interest in representing his constituents.

My favorite line in his AWB response letter was where he said that if the ban isn't extended, weapons like the Uzis and AK-47 will be produced in America and fall into the hands of criminals who lurk in our neighborhoods.

He must live in a rough neighborhood, one where Shotgun News is delivered chock full of ads for Uzis and AK-47s.

Oh wait, maybe he lives in my neighborhood, because my Shotgun News shows Uzis and AKs are still for sale!!

Actually, Warner hasn't officially announced whether or not he'll run again. Rumor is that he won't because his health isn't good.

Former Governor James Gilmore and Representative Tom Davis (who is a co-sponsor of the AWB in the House) are reportedly both angling for Senator Warner's seat if he does step down.

Here's a copy of the letter I sent to Warner's office this week. It was less for his benefit than for RNC Chairman Gillespie's, who I cc'ed on it. We need to put pressure not only on our elected officials, but on the GOP leadership as well.

Dear Senator Warner,

My husband and I are very active in the XXXXXX County Republican Committee. I served as Chairman of the Candidate Search Committee for the last two years, and my husband is a District Chair. We both will be taking off work this election day to work the local polls for the Republican Party.

My husband is trying to recruit volunteers to work the polls this election day so that we can get President Bush and Representative Wolf re-elected. You, however, are making it very difficult for him. You see, you are a co-sponsor of S. 2109. You have angered gun owners in our district, many of whom have helped us in the past, to the point where they are refusing to help the Bush campaign. Some of the names they are calling Republicans are rather … vile.

My husband and I do not want to see John Kerry in the White House, and your support for S. 2109 is driving grassroots Republican support away from President Bush. These are people who voted for our President in 2000 and who helped hand out Republican campaign literature at the polls. While they won't vote for Kerry, they will stay home this November.

Please, I'm begging you to reconsider. Withdraw your support from S. 2109 so that we can re-elect President Bush.

Thank you,

If Gilmore's running, count me on his side. Davis is as bad as Warner. I would not put it past that old fart though to run one more time. Gilmore may have made some enemies while he was Governor but he says what he means. I still have an autographed blow up of his NRA ad hanging on my office wall.

Nope. I am tired of begging RINO's like Warner to do the right thing on gun control.

I have written letters, sent e-mails, and telephoned Warner's office over the years, all to no avail.

Warner is an arrogant, lying, backstabber who, as has been mentioned, couldn't care any less about what the people of Virginia want since he isn't running for office again. I suspect that twisted bastards like Warner get off on this type of thing.

I will not waste my time on contacting Warner again.

Instead, I will support efforts to pass legislation in Virginia that sets up a system and proceedure for recalling politicians like Warner.

Your sentiments are exactly correct. However, Warner is one twisted son of a bitch who enjoys making people crawl, and you ought not to humiliate yourself like that before a craven bastard like him in my opinion.

At the very least, the letter to Warner should have been clearly marked as being cc'd to both the Virginia Republican Party headquarters, as well as to the Bush campaign headquarters. Warner may not give a damn, but I would expect that there are those who will make their unhappiness known in some ways that we cannot.

I used to like Warner, but observing his arrogant behavior and support of the AWB while flipping us the bird has turned me off. I don't blame his cohorts for his sins, but I will do everything I can to thwart him and his agenda. :barf:

Does VA allow recalls? If so why not start a recall petition. Even if it fails that might get Warner's attention. He can do a lot of damage in the 3 years remaining of his term.
