Odd 9mm JHPs

My new BHP came loaded :uhoh: with 3 mags of odd looking 9x19 HPs.

They are stamped "9mm Luger R.P.", look to be about 124gr, and gave an extremely small cavity (the 'hole' in the face of the bullet is about the diameter of a no 2 pencil lead)

Anybody know what these are? I'll probably shoot them up next time i go to the range, but I am curious...

Is the tip lead with the jacket starting somewhat down the ogive in a scalloped fashion? If so it is an older Remington Jacketed Soft Point/HP design mess thingy... Think they were the stuff late 70's early 80's a certain parent of mine carries them in his Firestar. :banghead:

Most likely safe to shoot.

Here's something interesting I found:

From: mshafer@herbie.unl.edu (MICHAEL SHAFER)
Subject: Is it real Corbon?

I just purchased 3 boxes of Corbon 9mm +P 115GR JHP and have heard
recent rumors that some counterfeit ammo has been being sold. The box
is date stamped JUN 03 1994 then #1107. Each shell is stamped 9mm
Luger R-P with some red stuff around each primer (I assumed to be
lock-tite). Is this the real McCoy? The first box I ever bought, 1.5
years ago had WIN 9mm LUGER Stamped on the bottom. Why the change?
Are they both for real?

Thanks in advance

Michael

Yea, one BHP I bought came with a loaded clip too. I think it was some American Eagle FMJ if I remember correctly. What a friggin knob....:banghead:

Sounds like standard Remington JHPs to me.
Remington standard hollowpoints (not Golden Sabre) have small openings and well rounded noses to feed well. Expansion is kind of secondary.

Be careful, they could be proof loads.

DT, is there anything you aren't telling us that makes you think that?

Or are you just saying that as a "what if"?

I have no reason to suspect that they are proof loads. However they do sound “odd” to say the least.

Unless I can purchase factory ammo NIB, I will usually just give it to some one else with a word of caution. I had a bad experience one time with a .223 from who knows where, getting stuck in my barrel.

Yeah, I've always been a big fan of not shooting ammo not specifically known to me....

And I've never had anything blow up on me yet.... ;)

The bullets sound like the standard Remington ones I often buy for my 9mm reloads.

Do they look like this:
