I finally own a Colt Python :)

After wanting one for, oh, around 20 years, I finally had the money and found one. :)
It's a nice, 6" Royal Blue. Serial number (962XX) puts it as 1969 manufacture (no prefix or suffix). Finish is nearly flawless. Original grips. Action on it is incredible, especially the single action. Absolutely no takeup in the trigger, and it's measuring at just a hair over 2lbs on my el cheapo trigger pull gauge.
:)

FJC, Pythons are beautiful revolvers. They are a real pleasure to shoot. I have two of them. They are worth every penny.
To really appreciate them, take a Python and a S&W to the range at the same time and shoot them one after another. It will quickly become apparent why they are so respected.:)

The only thing better than a six-inch Python is two six-inch Pythons.
Congratulations! It took me about twenty years to bite the Python price tag bullet, too.

I wish I could say the same thing.
I looked at two of them the other day in a gun store. One was a 2" which I had no interest in, the other was a six inch. Both were nickel or stainless whichever they came in. The 6" had obviously been used, it had a build up of powder on the cylinder face and around the barrel. They wanted $780 but said they were willing to deal to some degree. I really want a blue one, and now is not a good time for me to spend that kind of money on something I don't need. I own somewhere around a dozen .357 revolvers already. But someday, I will buy one. The six inch had an action to die for.

444, keep a watch on gunbroker.com. There's some really nice blued Pythons that are selling in the $500-$600 range, depending upon condition. Nickel seems to garner a bit more, as does Royal Blue. "Elites" are way overpriced.
Over the past few years, I've noticed a pattern: prices and bids go up before and shortly after Christmas. Then prices and bids come down. Summertime seems the best to get what you want.
What a gorgeous gun!

The "elites" aren't. Good thing it's stainless, so I don't have to worry about rust (much).

congratulations
they can be as addicting as a hk p-7, and just as expensive
blued is definately the way to go. if you need somthing tougher for use, you could go to electroless nickle or hard chrome

Good going! ;) I've had my eye on a Python for the longest time. My biggest hurdle is the price, so I'm always ISO the right deal.
Congrats!

10-Ring, try a pawn shop I've gotten some good deals there. Be patient in your search. It'll come.

I bought mine in 1965. NIB was $100.00. Twenty years of holster wear required a blue. A local gunsmith, who, unfortunately, is no
longer in business, did a blue job similar to the original. After twenty years, I had to change to a Sig 220. When I retired, I bought the Sig. Now I have at least two excellent guns.
Do you think I could sell the Python and make a little bit of a profit?

This gun has too many memories of my wild youth. It is not now, nor, will it ever be, for sale. I think I'll arrange to have it placed next to me just before they close the lid of the casket.
Thanks any way,
John
