I need to have my Wilson Speed-Chute blended to my frame and have a mag release drilled and tapped for an extended button.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a quality gunsmith that doesn't have outrageous prices? In Southern California would be best but I can ship (you don't need to worry about shipping a stripped frame, right?).

If your stripped frame has a Ser# on it you have to wory about it.
Are you looking for something like this??

It is just showing what the man is capable of. He can take care of you. Don't be fooled to thinking he has a large lead time, small jobs he can do quite quickly.

Thank you, I was looking for that site, I had remembered seeing it.

I sent him a couple of inquisitive emails some months ago and never heard anything back so I assumed he was unreliable to contact.

I guess I'll try again if I can't find anyone else.

Chuck did some work for me so my opinion is biased(sp). However, give him a call, he used to have a note on his websight asking you to call if you do not get a reply to a Email within a few days. He also changed his Email address a while ago.

Here is a link to 1911 forum, the page should open to a search of his screen name, Pistolwrench.

Do a search on his work, other than just his posts. He comes highly recomended from myself and others.

If you want to try some one else, go to LTW sight, in my Sig line- they are all good people and smiths there.

(BTW, I do not work for him, just respect the man)

As to blending that chute, that can be done with hand tools, time & patience.

Yeah, I got a hold of him. He didn't want to do it, but he's helping me do it myself. Metal splinters are not fun, now I know why he didn't want to do it. :(

I need to get a hold of a certain kind of file then I can finish it myself.

Drilling and tapping a magazine catch is close to impossible in a shop. You can buy them already done for pretty reasonable prices. They are harder than the hammered hinges of hell. I am glad he helped you with your task. These are many jobs that are just not feasible now with the cost of shipping, waiting time, and the risky business of shipping both ways. UPS got on the air and said they hired crooks for employees so they wanted to ship them overnight and lessen the risk of their criminal employees stealing your guns. I have not used them since nor will I ever.

I don't consider a frame a gun, and I will ship it accordingly. Anyone who thinks differently is a fool (which includes almost every politician in the history of the country). An inert piece of shaped steel with nothing attached is not a gun. I'd consider the slide with a barrel in it a gun, but certainly not a frame.

In any case, I just broke down and ordered an Ed Brown mag catch / button assembly for $20 more than the button alone cost. So now I have a mag catch button for sale. If anyone wants to buy it, I'll sell it for $9 shipped. I'll put a thread in the For Sale forum later if nobody here wants it.
