L-2 July 11, 2004, 07:17 PM http://www.liongate-armsandarmour.com/bq686.htm (Just a guess...) Possibly a Japanese Model 1897 bayonet, or similar, circa WWII, according to the referenced website. http://www.gunboards.com/sites/banzai/Bayonets/BayPrimer/M35Bay/M35Bayonet.htm But then there's a Japanese Type 30 bayonet which looks more like your picture with the curved hilt. I believe this referenced item is missing the photo on the webpage, though. Try doing a "Google" image search using the words "bayonet" and "japanese". Ol' Badger July 12, 2004, 08:37 AM A Big'un. MrMurphy July 14, 2004, 07:33 PM Could be the bayonet off the Type 38 Arisaka 6.5mm. But without seeing the markings I'm not sure. The handle looks suspiciously like an older German bayonet like off the 1888 Commission rifle. RockportRifle July 15, 2004, 04:57 PM I believe your bayonet in question might be a Japanese Type 30 bayonet. Compare here: http://bayonets.www3.50megs.com/index.html Good luck. -L JShirley July 15, 2004, 08:13 PM Yeah, it does look long enough to be off an Arisaka. The Mauser bayonets are usually a little shorter. That strongly curved guard should be a clue. John MrMurphy July 15, 2004, 09:47 PM "Usually" is the key. The older 1888 Commission rifle had a long bayonet, and older Italian rifles also had the strong hook (for disarming someone else, hook the bayonet and yank) on their bayonets. Pre-WW1 rifles have fairly similar looking bayonets. R.H. Lee July 17, 2004, 10:31 AM Thanks for the replies. Here is a close up. I can't make out the numbers. http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=1123290 R.H. Mine is from a 7.7 Arisaka. Oh, and though I stupidly didn't photograph it, mine has the same triple circle symbol indicating the arsenal that either manufactured or subcontracted the bayonet.
