Roscoe Coltranes Duty Weapons

I did some research. The S&W was what he and the HCSO deputies carried. Roscoe had a Model 10 with genuine stag grips first. The show became hard on grips and faux plastic stag grips were used. The HCSO deputies also carried Model 10s with standard walnut grips. There was a desire for Sheriff Coltrane to look different than the HCSO deputies. The prop department came up with a S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman 357 Magnum with pearlite grips. All revolvers were 4". Trivia can give one a headache!

Odd thing I discovered in my research, Daisy Duke, Bo and Luke Duke were all HCSO deputy sheriffs. Jesse Duke was appointed HCSO Sheriff once. Bo and Luke were on probation and barred from carrying duty weapons. They used bows and arrows!

I am constantly amazed and inspired by the amount of time and motivation some of our members have for these types of things.

That's a nice bit of research there Josey. I appreciate the information (pretty scary huh?). I actually just watched an old episode that I checked out from the library. Our library system has like nine or ten old episodes on VHS. Knowledge is power. I guess I need to get a stag gripped model 10 and a basset hound and name him Flash. Thanks for the nostalgia and have a good one.

My favourite episode was when Roscoe got rich. A Rolls Royce with an FS Aerodynic lightbar was funny! James Best actually carried his personal firearms in a couple of DOH "western" themed episodes. His career was started in westerns. He has quite a personal collection.
