On Monday, my dealer will be ordering my Razorback(hopefully #91) because I got to the shop just a bit too late for him to do it yesterday.

Anyway, what I want to know is who makes good 10mm ammo in light, intermediate, and hot rounds? I want to be able to find something I like without going through a box of everything out there. Yes, I know that reloading would be a good idea but I no longer have access to reloading equipment.

For good plinking and practice 10mm, go with CCI/Blazers' 200gn load or Geo. Arms' 180 FMJ load.

A lot of veteran 10mm shooters will suggest you start reloading if you want to see just how hot you can go with the 10mm Auto and still be within safe/sane limits. For such data, you might do a Search on GT's 10Ring for the reloading data posted by MCNETT, among others.

If you don't reload, Winchester, Geo. Arms, Cor-Bon, Proload, and Texas Ammo all offer 10mm factory ammo using quality HP bullets that range from "reasonably warm" to "smokin' hot" (again, for factory loads).

See, e.g., http://www.texas-ammo.com

HTH. :)

I would put the Silvertips at 175gr and 1250fps in the "definitely-warm" category for 10mm.

Texas-Ammo is pretty hot at 1250fps for the 200gr, and ProLoad makes a good batch of 165gr GDs at 1350fps.

Thanks for the info, guys. It's nice to have a start point.

Mild Loads: Most cheap FMJ practice ammo (CCI, Georgia Arms, UMC). Federal Hydra-Shoks.

Medium Loads: Cor-Bon's hollowpoint loads are really the only "medium" loads I can think of... only about 100 ft/sec faster than their .40 S&W counterparts.

Hot Loads: Cor-Bon hunting ammo in 180gr and 200gr flavors, all of Texas Ammo's 10mm Express stuff, Winchester Silvertips (175gr@ 1,290 ft/sec is the advertised velocity BTW), everything by Pro Load, Georgia Arms 155gr and 180gr Gold Dots, Hornady 180gr XTP-Full, maybe some other stuff I've forgotten. :D

I break it down like sean's post except I have not found a middlin load.

I guess maybe you stick super reloads on top and then the stuff listed as hot would be middlin.

for my G20. AA5 for low and middies, and I'll use Blue Dot for my HD stuff. Reaches levels that approach the 41 mag.

not trying to be "smart". If you're gonna be a 10 shooter, I'd consider stuffin' your own. You can reload lead for around $4 per box and jacketed for $7.

Lots of reloading info on GlockTalk in the 10-Ring forum. At 2 boxes a month you can pay for your reloading set-up in a year.

Yeah, 10mm would seem to be the round of choice for those with lots of cash laying around in buckets, or for reloaders. Right now, I'm neither, so my G20 isn't getting much range time.

Pretty soon I'm either going to find the winning Powerball tuicket in the gutter, or I'm going to figure out how to use Falconer's reloader. ;)

"for those with lots of cash laying around in buckets, or for reloaders."

While reloading allows you to both save $$$ and discover just how versatile the 10mm's power range really is (esp. given the huge array of bullet-weights available in .40cal/10mm), the cost of plinking/practice-type 10mm, if bought by the case, simply isn't that expensive.

$180 gets you a 1000rds of reloadable 180gn 10mm from Georgia Arms. A little more for a case of the 200gn Blazer loads. How many buckets o' cash is that?

Actually, with 10mm, it won't take you that long to go through everything out there. :neener:

If you are getting a Razorback, consider GA's even cheaper 180gr lead flat nose load... $160/1,000. Cheaper than alot of the bulk .45 ACP out there. Glock guys should probably stick to the jacketed stuff, which is also quite a bit hotter (1100 ft/sec vs 950 for the lead).

if you gotta figure in freight too

if not, you're not too far from the cost of handloads

you also have one of the biggest handloader advantages..if I want to go shoot, I can crank out 200 in 20-25 minutes. Nice to always have some "on hand"
