Looking for an AR match rifle, I've run across one with the flat-top receiver marked"Colt Match Target Elete Tactical". The 20" SS barrel is marked H-Bar 1:9. It has a free-floating knurled aluminum handguard. The only picatinny rail is located on the receiver. The lower rear of the buttstock forms a sort of forward-pointing hook I haven't seen on any other rifle. Price is bargained to $750. Any comments on this rifle?

Considering I'm looking for a .223 match quality rifle to be used primarily for timed courses of fire in which I engage targets at different ranges from 75-yd to about 360-yd from different shooting positions during the same timed course, how does this Colt Match Target Elete Tactical rifle fit? What optical sights would be appropriate? EOTech-style sights were used in the match I observed...but such would have to be mounted on the receiver of this particular rifle...is that OK? What MOA accuracy can I expect from this rifle? Sorry for all the questions, but to date I've only fired from the four positions and the bench at simple targets and gongs.

What I am getting at is that you are now transfized on this ONE rifle to shoot this ONE match at this ONE range. Does the end justify the means?
I am not sure what you saw being shot is shot anywhere else on the planet AS YOU SAW IT...are you?
If not, will you be satisfied to spend $1500 on a gun that will be used only when that range has that particular type of match, which may be monthly, bi-monthly, semi-anually, or anually?
The chances are that the guys shooting the match may shoot another type of match more often and you may not like that one...OR they all happen to have some high speed gear and this match was a good way to play with it at their range...OR they were having one of the once-in-a-while rifle only mathes that go along with IPSC or IDPA...Or....
No offense, but it sounds to me like you saw a particular rifle that you are wanting to get and you are using this one match you saw as justification to buy it. This is like me when I was 9 years old wanting my dad to buy a "deer rifle" for me to go deer hunting. You are considerably older than I am John, and you didn't get that way by throwing your money away. There is more than one rifle in the world...I really suggest you investigate this match and see if you will have the opportunity to shoot it a lot, and what the guys really like.

Steve, I think you're missing the point. Take another look at my post above that states that the rifle I want to buy is the best for the stated competitive purpose. I happened to run across this rifle, which is readily available (at least yesterday!) for what seems to be an attractive price...I'm simply asking whether this particular rifle is well suited for the purpose, or whether I need to look for something more appropriate!

Which is it. That IS the point.
In one post you say the rifle IS best suited for the purpose and ASK if it is. You obviously don't know. I'm not trying to be insulting, but asking us if it is best is not worthwhile. Asking the guys who do it IS. The rifle is appropriate for similar games, yes.

Having done my research, including talking with a number of competitors, and lookiing at a number of similar competition dealers, including Rock River...I should have bought that rifle!! Regrettably, someone else did...:banghead:
