I loaded and shot some 180g wadcutters with 11.0g of 2400 and really liked the accuracy and low recoil in my CA Bulldog, not to mention the pins didn't walk with these loads.:D

I haven't replaced my shot up Chrony yet...

Anyone venture a guesstimate to the velocity that I'm getting from my 2 1/2" Bulldog?

I shoot alot of 44spl. But not that load or powder you mention.
From the Lyman 45th Edition it starts at 13gr 2400, for a 180gr cast bullet at 714fps from a Colt SAA 5.5".

With a 4" it would be about 60fps less? So around 650fps.

I think you could do the same or better with 4gr of Bullseye,691fps.

Or 7gr Unique at 877fps.

I don't think the 2400 is burning in the length of a 4" barrel.

From my 4.75" , 8gr Unique gives me 1050fps ,

and 4gr Bullseye is 750fps on my chronograph. Both 180jhp and accurate.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm. Good point on the burn rate & bbl length there. I do a lot of 44 loading and 2400 is my primary powder there, but my bbl lengths are 7.5" in the mags., guess I missed considering burn rate.

I was at 13.0g of 2400 but the pins always walk on me so figured I'd try a lil less. It worked as far as the pins walking but it'd be nice if I was above 500 fps in the little Bulldog, lol.

I have a couple lbs of Bullseye, think I'll try some out. Thanks much.

There's gotta be a load that generates respectable velocities & little recoil without the pins walking every 5 shots.

I've had problems loading that light with 2400 powder . . . lots of unburned powder. If I wanted a light plinking load, I'd use something like SR4756.

Is that a Milsurp powder? I'll check on that. Yeah, plinking, longevity of the pistol and BUG load that could be shot weak handed if needed are the intended uses.

Thanks.
