Does anyone have any experience loading this bullet for handgun or rifle ? Tried some yesterday, couldn't get much expansion till about 1100 fps. Admittly firing into damp sandy/loam. Any thoughts on using it as a short range deer load?

If I were concerned about this load, I'd test it in water -- a Fackler Box is easy to make. It's just a trough, open at the ends with an occasional brace across the top.

You fill it with freezer bags full of water -- so it looks something like a file drawer full of files. It will do a pretty good job of showing you how your bullet will expand, and will give a fair idea of penetration as well.

I like to use a wide flatnose cast bullet in .45 Colt for deer hunting -- anything above 1000 fps seems to work fine.
