I decided to put a new hunting rifle together this year. Since my wife lost her job, we have a two year old, and we had to put a new roof on the house, funding was rather limited. As a base, I choose a Remington 700 ADL in 300 win mag. I wanted a good rifle with a reliable action and a caliber that would be "enough" for any game in North America.
On it I choose a nice set of Millett two-piece bases, Leupold medium height rings, one inch nylon-web sling, and a Millett Buck Gold Series 3-12x44 scope.
Price breaks down as follows:

The only component in this package I had any question on was the scope. There is not much information out there and Millett is not a big name as far as optics go, although I did find a lot of good comments about their mounting hardware.
I picked the rifle up this weekend after it has been on layaway for several months. I sat the rest of the day Saturday and cleaned/assembled the rifle as well as reloaded some 100 rounds of SAMI spec ammo with some spare 180 gr. Sierras and some IMR 4895 I had. I figured this will be my threshold of tolerable shooting and do a nice break-in.
Yesterday I got up at 5 am with anticipation of shooting this new beast. I loaded up the truck and moved on out to my favorite public range. The shooting today would be at 100 yards. I bore-sighted the scope using the "look down the bore and adjust the knobs" technique. Since I was just breaking in the bore, I was not too concerned with accuracy all that much. With the scope I 3x I put one round in the rifle and squeezed the trigger, wow, one little hole 1 inch left and ½ inch down from the bull, sweet! I cleaned the bore and did another, wow again, same hole (I am going to have to remember to try this load again). I worked my way through the rest of the break-in trying different targets and scope powers.
I must say, I am impressed with this scope. The point of aim never shifted once in 100 rounds of rifle-jarring recoil. The glass is crystal clear and is even brighter than the VXII my shooting partner had on his Sendero. The adjustments are extremely crisp and accurate with a dead-on return to zero. I figured this scope would have taken the path of many other sub $300.00 scopes on top of this bucking 300 win mag. I decided a set of sunshades would be a nice accessory, I called the folks at Millett today. WTH, they actually picked up the phone, impressive :D I found out that these scopes have a lifetime warranty and are guaranteed to withstand .50 BMG, wholly jumping Batman. :what:
Overall, I like the scope and yes, I will definitely consider them for future purchases.
