How do I tell if my AK can take 30 round magazines

I am worried that my AK can't take 30 round magazines. It is a Hungarian SA 2000M. It has some 10 round single stack magazines now. Can it take the 30 round double stack(and 75 round drums) or are they too wide? Should I take it back?

to the best of my knowledge, if you want to use 30 rd mags, take that AK back and get another one. i believe that particular model will only take those 10 rd single stack mags.

The gunshop guy is such a F%(*))* idiot! I ask if it takes 30 round magazines. "Oh yes it does, of course." It doesn't. I ask if it is a muzzle brake or flash supressor. "it is a flash supressor." i shot it at night, its a muzzle brake. I have lost a ton of faith in that moron.

They'll all take 30 rounders.**
**Some may require a minor modification of questionable legality...

Good luck returning the rifle. Maybe they will at least exchange it.
Don't modify it to accept normal magazines unless you are sure it is legal to do so.

Yeah, if it uses single-stack mags, it can ONLY use single-stack mags. Bummer! I hope you can return or exchange it...:(

If he's any sort of a dealer he will at the very least give you the trade value on another weapon if not a full refund for misleading you. It's doubtful he knew what he was talking about himself.
Modifying it is not recommended due to potential legal problems and loss of resale value.

He better take it back. He gave you bad info and I would cause a huge stink if he didn't! Good luck. Trying to get money from a gun dealer is one of life's great feats. If you can do that, the world is your oyster.:D

You did get one of the best single stack AK's ever made however. They are sought after by those who want one to convert to hi-caps.

My understanding (and I am not a lawyer) is that you can convert it to use 30-round magazines, if you comply with the rules regarding having the appropriate number of US parts. Probably be cheaper to return it or sell it and buy an AK that will take double-stack mags. But if you convert it, you'll have a fine AK.

Conversion would be more trouble that it's worth, IMO. Besides the cost of the required US made parts, you'll at least have to open up the mag well, maybe modify the mag catch (not sure).
I'd take it back, and see what the dealer has to say for himself. Intentionally or not, he mis-represented the product. That's more than just a lousy way to run a business, it's illegal (at least in many states, if not all...?), and you have specific legal rights.
People make honest mistakes, sure, but what this guy told you could have helped you get into serious legal trouble. I'd be very wary of buying from him again after you get this mess sorted out.
BTW- An AK is a great choice. :)
