I am thinking about getting one of these for my firearms, because the state of california says that I need to have my guns locked up either with an approved gun lock or an approved safe of some sort. A local gunshop has it for $119 and I can see it holding more than just the 8 long guns it claims it willl hold.

I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with these.

Is this the standard gun locker with 2 locks, top and bottom? If so, I use them as well, but don't expect them to be anything more than a nusaince to a criminal. No any fire resistance. They are purely for storage and can't replace a safe. But, that said, if you can anchor them to the wall and load them heavy (I can squeeze 8/9 long rifles into mine, just barely, but they have scopes, bipods, and pistol grips), then they will defeat a non-screwdriver wielding bad guy, or at least keep the house cleaner/your brother-in-law from FFing your stuff.

i have one, i squeeze all my guns in there barely,
i would look around @ some sporting good stores or walmart & see if there
cheaper, mine was $ 80.00 at a local hardware store.
i might get another because there reasonable.

mine is to keep my kids out, i'm sure a thief could pack it off or cut thru it with a pick.

I used a Homak 8-gun for several years. As stated above, their are fine for keeping curious hands away, little more. Still, better than nothing.

You can get a similarly-sized Sentry (?) safe from Walmart occasionally for less than twice the price, if you want something a little more sturdy / burglar-delaying.

I would definitely choose Sentry over Homak because the Sentry is heavier in build. Either one is great for protecting the weapons against a snatch, but not against fire, flood or pros. Having said that, however, I like them. Even after you upgrade to a big safe, the Sentry/Homak is great for securing tools, ammunition, cameras, jewelry, etc. You can even fit fireproof boxes in there and secure your important papers.

One idea is to take two of these lockers and bolt them together, side by side, so it's even harder to move the unit. Or put the locker inside of a closet where there isn't a lot of room to maneuver the tools needed to rip into it.

They aren't a bad investment.

The problem is sentry is that I don't think they are on the approved Firearm Saftey Device list which means that i would still have to get cable locks or trigger locks everytime I purchase a firearm is CA which defeats the purpose of me getting a safe.
