I'm thinking on buying one of the following: CETME ($289.95), L1A1($418.95) or a HK stlye G3 ($469.96) as offered by J&G sales in the latest Shotgun News. Which is a better deal as far as handling, maintiance and relability goes? I'm not really into AR15's but there is a DPMS A15 carbine offered for $599.00 on another page but if I buy an AR15 I think I would whether have a 20" barrel over a 16" barrel for the velocity gain making the 5.56 a little more effective.

If you go with either the CETME or the G3, be sure you're getting one of the new receivers. I've heard better things about the new ones. Some people advise that you actually inspect one before buying. Might be a good idea.

I don't know enough about their L1A1 clone but I remember something about them being a mix of metric and inch parts. Check over on the Falfiles to get more info.

If you're considering an AR for $599, you might also want to consider the basic model RF G3 from Rapid Fire in Ohio. They start with a Century receiver and rework it so you're assured of getting a functioning rifle. I've got one of their FALs and they did a fantastic job on it. If you're serious about the AR, DPMS makes a nice rifle. I wouldn't worry too much about the velocity difference you'll get from a 16 vs. 20 inch barrel.

Everything except the AR15 is a parts gun.This may mean its a fantastic shooter or an endless headache.My friend has never been able to get a full mag off through his Cetme despite trying all the assorted cures.A far better choice IMHO would be a NEW Saiga AK in .308 from CDNN.Better gun and cheaper!;)

Thanks for the link to AWBanSunset, I took the opportunity to write several letters. If we all take a few minutes and do the same, maybe the sun will actually set on this monstrosity.
