It's a neat piece, certainly. OTOH, because of silly regulations, it costs about 8x what it should.

We should be able to get Sten guns for $70, MAKS for $300, FALs and STGs for $250...

I thought that if it was cut up, it was "destroyed" and declared a piece of scrap metal, so why would re-welding it make it illegal?

The ATF has issued a letter specific to the BREN weld-up. Short version is that the receiver is "converted" to semi-only capable during the welding. Check out www.BRENLMG.com(I think it is) for details and copy of the letter. Guy (jumanra?)over on FALFILES builds and sells the jigs with a CD that walks you through the process.

Can someone make a legal semi-auto out of the parts kit if they made a new reciever?
I would like to do this with a Sten.

Go over to www.weaponeer.net and check out buying kits. There is someone making a reduced diameter tube and a semi-bolt that makes a semi-auto STEN using many of the parts off the de-milled sTEN kits.
