Well, It is the Tunerville Trolly

Here is a 1911 that we built 20 years ago from junk. The frame is a welded up dust cover and a welded up trigger guard from three different trashed out lower ends. The top end was a South American slide out of the trash can and the parts are largely take-outs from a myriad on nameless 1911's. A Elmer barrel from Divine TX, a GI Bushing, trigger of unknown vintage, and a favorite carry gun for 20 years that has killed Coyotes at 100 yards or more and a Big Bear at 10 feet. It has a wonderful trigger pull at 56 ozs and is 100 % reliable. We parkerized it and called it good to go. It's the epitome of a Pieces/Parts/Junk Gun and we have dedicated this one to Tuner the Great!

Gawd, I love stories like that. Especially with such a nice looking pistol attached to it. Junker or not, I like it!

I...I'm speechless. I don't deserve this honor!
:D
There's a certain satisfaction in turnin' a sow's ear into a denim purse,
ain't there now?
Some folks will look at a wore-out old warhorse and see junk. I look
at a verteran and see that the old girl still has a lotta fight left in her.
All it takes is a gentle hand and a touch of patience. Those old shooters
just have a character and charisma that the others just ain't got.
Who knows? The junker that you restore could be the very one that
Hanneken used to deck Charlemagne...
With a tear in my eye, I bid you all goodnight and Godspeed...
(I'm talkin' to the old GI pistols out there)

I thought Tuner would relate to this gun. It belongs to a pal in Raton, NM , and I am going to install some Novaks, clean it up a little, put some new Wolff springs in it ( Let 'em Count the Coils, Tuner), re blue it at Gunsite and send it back home when it's done. I will try to take some pics before it leaves for Raton. I had high hopes that you would like it as it looks like what we used to carry a lot in the Days of Yesteryear.

20 years carry - heck, that's testimony in itself.:)
But then .. if assembling a ''junker'', what matters is the care and skill that goes into the ''conversion'' assembly process .. in this case ... a heck of a lot musta been got right!
Ahhh Raton ... reminds me of passin thru there before hoppin on 25 to head North for Pueblo last year. Great scenery - after NW TX .. a wonderful relief!:D

AARRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!:banghead:
Then it'll prolly bust the slide if'n ya hafta bang somebody inna toppa the
noggin with it instead of concentratin' the bang to a point the way the
stock issue rear sight will and crackin' the goblin's skull without bustin' the slide...
Pure fightin' pistol means PURE fightin' right down to the hand-to-hand bitter end...'cause ya jus' never know how it's gonna go 'til it goes.

The slide can take it, Tuner. I used a lot of these slides back in the Days of Yesteryear and no one has ever worn one out. We used to draw file the roll marks off by hand and then turn them into carry guns. I bought them six at a time for about $35.00 each from a place in Chicago. I bought the Elmer Barrels for about $30.00 each for a half a dozen at a time and they woulf shoot as good as most with a nice fitting NM bushing and a high end barrel link and pin. I have a slide from back then that was hard chromed on my LW GI 5" as we speak. It is a WIP (Work In Progress) waiting for me to decide on the checkering pattern (20 ,25,or 30LPI) and then get hard anodized in either clear or black. That slide has a proto-type rear sight that looks like a Novak, but adjusts for elevation and windage without moving it in the dovetail. It has a Wilson Nite Lite up front for night work. BTW. An old Cop Trick for night fights is to shoot the first shot with the other eye closed, and then open that eye for the second shot. Then you are blind in both eyes but at least you can get two good ones off! Remember , that big ball of fire you get out of the muzzle will destroy your night vison. Did you like that little dawg and the ball cap? It is my Ex's birthday present.
