Pyrodex shelf life

I took the GPR out for a shoot yesterday w/o much luck. The power would not ignite unless I removed the nipple and put a few grains under it. The caps fired without any problem. Dust would move from in front of the barrel when a cap was popped. Would this be an indication of weak powder? The bottle of Pyrodex is about 3 years old. I live in a very humid area, spelled that Louisiana. Yesterday at the range the temperature was 103 with a much higher heat index. No one else was shooting BP so I couldn't borrow any powder. WTM

I have some that is several years old and working just fine. However, it has been stored well sealed and in temperate conditions. The Hogdons people mention that pyrodex is more sensitive to moisture and environmental extremes than smokeless

WTM, I store my powder cans in those metal military syle cartridge containers. They have a good moisture seal and if you put in a couple of bags of silica gell any excess humidity/moisture is taken care of. The gell lasts quite a while.

I have a partial (about 1/3 full) jug of Pyrodex select that is almost ten years old, and it still goes bang every time I take it to the range with me. My Father gave it to me because his gun wouldn't shoot good with it, and none of mine ever did either. I drag it out every so often when I get a new gun, but none of them ever do very good with select.
