Since I'm too lazy to call the Sheriffs' office and ask at the moment, anyone have any experience with getting a CCW in Georgia? According to packing.org, it seems like a fill-the-paperwork-out and pay your dues deal. Can anyone verify this? How long does it usually take for the permit to arrive?

It's a fill your paperwork, go get fingerprinted, turn in your paperwork thing. Depending on where you live it will take from 1-4 months to get your permit in the mail. I was in Fulton Co. and mine came in three months. That was about two years ago.

The GBI's share must be paid by money order. The fingerprinting will be done after you fill in the paperwork and pay. Very easy.

Every county has their own rules but basically it's like you said, fill out the paperwork, get fingerprinted and wait. In Newton County it took two weeks for mine to arrive in the mail. The further from Atlanta you are the faster you get it, or so it seems. With a valid CCW you're also exempt from Brady checks which if you collect firearms can save you a few bucks.

What they said, except I never had to get a money order. Cash works in Gwinnett and Barrow.

In Morgan County, it took only two weeks for the permit to come in (but not in the mail - I had to go back to the courthouse to pick it up). :D
