Tom Cruise's Pistol Training/Shooting Instruction for Film "Collateral"?

I was just watching an "Access Hollywood" bit on the new Michael Mann/Tom Cruise film "Collateral". Cruise looked pretty good, in terms of gun handling and shooting.

I know that Mick Gould (former SAS, I believe) was the primary technical advisor for the film, but does anyone know whether or not Cruise attended any specific shooting schools like the Crucible Training Center, Gunsite, etc...

In other words, did anyone else train him, besides Mr. Gould? And if so, who?

If Mr. Gould conducted all the training, what facility did they use?

Why would you want to start a thread concerning one of the most rabid anti-gun celebrities in Hollywood? That little punk is no friend of gun owners or the 2nd Amendment. :fire:

I bet he trained with the SEELs.

First, I don't know what Tom Cruise's politics are, nor do I really care, at the moment. I'm just curious as to who trained him. His technique looked pretty solid, and more impressive than what I've usually seen on film.

It's some of the best gun handling/shooting technique I've seen since movies like "Heat" and "Way of the Gun".

He was trained by L Ron Hoover and the Church of Appliantology, for all I know. ;)

Heh, he was joking about Cruise being a Scientologist.

Michael Mann always has his actors trained. It should be good.
I'm just dissapointed that Cruise isn't using a custom 1911, like most of Mann's other characters.

Gandalf Why would you want to start a thread concerning one of the most rabid anti-gun celebrities in Hollywood? That little punk is no friend of gun owners or the 2nd Amendment.I honestly can't recall him saying anything against the RKBA. I do recall him speaking out in favor of the war when Iraq started up. I also recall several incidents where he came to the aid of complete strangers, such as when he chased off some guys who were mugging a woman a couple years back.

Since you're so adamantly against him, would you care to point out some examples of him opposing the 2nd?

If Cruise actually went anywhere to train, I'd bet money it was at Front Sight.

I think I rember Tom Cruises' name being on that one letter about putting locks on guns or something to that effect. I think it was something spear headed by Rosie O' donnell. :barf:

As an aside, I heard a recent interview with Matt Damon about his role on the Bourne movies. He said that he spent several weeks on gun training with an instructor near LA and fired "tens of thousands" of rounds. I know he does a lot of preparation for his movies and it is pretty obvious in the Bourne series.

Tom Cruise is a piece of crap and an overrated actor. Just one more movie that I know to stay away from.

Howdy all,

I saw that blurb on TV also, Tom was saying HK this, HK that, not mentioning any model numbers, then went on to say how much fun it was. That now he is pretty good with a sword and a pistol.

Careful Tom, everyone likes a little fun.

No answer to your question, just adding to the thread.

Booritz says he is a midget! So far every actor/actress I have seen in person* is way smaller than I expected with some of them being absolutely tiny.

*The single exception was Peter Mayhew--the fellow who played Chewbacca in Star Wars.

Hey, We just found out through our pool contractors(building new pool) that they are building Tom Cruises pool at his new mansion just 5 min from my house. Well its funny cause our area is nothing like hollywood, and he moved smack dab next door to the only other mansion in our area owned by Matt geiger the basketball player.(hes an ass Ive met him at our local blimpie a couple of times). Then we thought about it and there is a big scientologist HQ in Clearwater and in Tarpon. So that makes sense, Ill try to get Tom to challenge me at a range with his new aquired "shooting skills" lol. Ill bet him a million bucks.lol

JohnKSa,
Yea...Mayhew is a big boy...I have a pic somewhere of him and Gunnar Hansen posing together at a convention or something...only guy there that could make Gunnar look SHORT:D

Of the celebrities that I have met very few have been as impressive in person as they were on screen...The exception would be Paul White (WWE's "Big Show")...ya wanna say massive?? That is a big guy!

OP,

saw the movie, same sentiments.

One part looked like it was taken from Grover's Combative pistol...

The club scene (Fever) was entertaining as well

Whenever someone mentions an actor on this board half the threads end up being about how anti-2nd Amendment they are. It never fails. Someone will claim they saw them on Oprah saying only cops should have guns and then someone else will say the NRA put them on there blacklist. Then someone else will claim they are one of the liberal elite who think its ok for them to own weapons but noone else. I truly doubt many of the actors out there are truly vocal against gun rights, considering all of them are armed to the teeth in there movies and in RL. Its just not a major issue for most people.

I could really care less if some actor, director or whatever is an anti as long as they don't preach about it. Cruise's donor list has some antis on it, big deal. I really doubt that anyone could "blacklist" every person and corporation that has supported an anti at some point in time. This goes double for those who realize that a lot of Republicans are anti too. Remember, not everyone is a one issue voter. In fact, some people completely ignore the issue of firearms.

Just for fun let's see who a blacklist type person would keep their money from.

Hi David,

I was recently talking to Taran Butler, a top USPSA competitor in CA, and he mentioned the guy who was working with Cruise, but I can't remember his name. Taran does alot of Hollywood Firearms Instruction (he's buddies w/ James Cameron), so I'm sure he would know.

Who know's, it could've been training for MI3.

Oh well.

I could've taught Tom a thing or two! :D

u sure it was him?
I watched a special about the movie the other night, and it stated that Guy Rock trained Crusie for the pistol and hand to hand stuff. Interesting point about Rock, he trains you to add on your strengths, not by teaching new skills from the ground up. Cruise said he really enjoyed his time at the range as well... who knows he might convert just yet
