I was researching buying an XD-9, because my wife liked its grip and trigger reach better than the CZ85B, and likes to be able to fire any weapon I have in the safe. I will have to acquire the CZ later now as a range gun.
Anways, I was on GlockTalk, (where better to find out how every non-Glock sucks?), and I came across people slamming the XD for not having the Glock's combat record! What on Earth is the Glock's combat record?

Hi Boats,
Man it's like this, if this was a Colt forum everything other from Colt would suck, if it was a Springfield Armory forum, everything not an S/A would suck. Don't knock Glock Talk, it's a great site for those who like Glocks and for those who want to know more about them.
It's obvious you have no love for Glock, so be it. On the other hand, I own a safe full of handguns, and my personal carry piece is a Glock 33, 357Sig. But I don't come out and say what you prefer sucks. Thank God for the Good Old USA, you are entitled to your opinion and I to mine.
As for Glock's combat record, I'm sure some Isreali soldiers could probably give you a few stats.

Oh, I get it, undeclared war in urban areas equals combat. I will keep the Israelis in mind next time I see a Glock frozen in a block of ice in an advertisement.:D

You could always answer:
Guns don't go to combat, people carrying them do.
Kinda like guns don't kill people...............
Or you can just point out that no pistol has the combat history of the 1911.

Boats, Back in the late 1960's when I was doing combat in V-Nam, my main carry piece there was a pair of .50 cals hanging out of each side of the SAR Huey helicopter that I crewed. I had a Navy issued , Air Force rejected, Singer 1911 .45 cal. (wish I had it now), hanging on my hip. The thing was so loose it rattled when you shook it, during range qualification, at 50 ft, neither the range instructor or I could get a round on the paper let alone in the target area, yet that was my survival piece, God forbid we ever went down, thankfully we never did. The Singer 1911 today is worth thousands back then it was considered a piece of junk, couldn't get a full clip through it without stovepiping a spent casing or two. Lots of Colts had that same problem back then also. Man, what I would have given for a Glock of any caliber back in those days. Combat record or not. I'm 66 years old now and I pray that no member of the US military ever has to get a proven combat record but it doesn't look to good as things are today.

Hey, I hear you Chief! A crud weapon is a crud weapon, (in deference to Oleg's desires not to use profanity).
What I have a hard time abiding by is the type of person, whether they be fans of Glock, 1911s, BHPs, whatever, claiming the one true faith.
Just like crud is crud, a good service pistol is a good pistol, if one has a good example of it. (Everybody can and does make the odd lemon).
The BHP has a lengthy combat record, but I hate the pistol because if I shoot more than one box of ammo, I can count on being bitten. I do not like 1911s w/o beavertails for the same reason. I liked the G20 enough to consider purchasing one until Glock's politics got in the way. I have had various Berettas that I have nothing bad to say about. I have never had a problem with a SIG except that I can't stand how my hand feels on a 245. My friend had a Ruger P-85 I could only fault for be uglier than original sin.
However, when a fan of a pistol that has not seen what I'd call serious or extended combat, fault another pistol for the same "flaw," I get a bit acerbic about the contention.
As I said, I came about this >< close to buying a Glock. One of the things that kept me from buying one for years, other than the funky grip angle, was all of the carnival-style hucksterism surrounding them. Unbeknownst to many of the G-faithful, their pistol has been beaten in head-to-head T&E for adoption before. It is well known that one of the reasons for their LE market penetration is deep discounting, the same tactic that automakers use to fill rental fleets and governmental motor pools.
Glocks are good pistols, but they ain't the final word on the matter and other pistols have their own resumes and combat records every bit as impressive or more.

Agreed Boats, The quirky trigger is why NYPD insisted on Glocks with 8lb triggers vice the 5.5lb stock trigger, hence the name" New York Trigger". Then NYPD went to Kahr for off duty carry issued weapons primarily because their armorer thought the Glocks trigger was dangerous. But how many people have had their safety accidently bumped off on a "Cocked and Locked" 1911 varient? Thank God for the grip squeeze safety. I also would not have one without the beavertail. Oh well, who knows. What you say about deep discounting is 100% right on. Our local Sheriff's office can get them for $385 a pop, but chose to go with Sig over Glock.
Nice talking to you Boats, are you former Navy by chance? The nickname "Boats" is lovingly bestowed upon Navy Boatswains Mates. Best Regards, MCPO John USN RET

Yes, I was a BM2, USS Goldsborough, DDG-20, Pearl Harbor, back in the 80s. Seemed as good a handle as any.
Pleased to make your acquaintance.:p What was your rate?

I'd pick up the HS2000 over a Glock any day, even the sub-compact! (Even though the XD is much uglier) :D
Something about that Glock grip that doesn't feel right... :neener:
