Guns and Ammo has a glowing report on the Winchester 1100 Competition Master in this month's issue. Has anyone seen one and does anyone know if they are available now. If they are available, what is a fair price (the list price is $932.00) I am looking for a semi-automatic that an handle tactical loads with a short barrell length. A social shotgun

Are you talking about the Winchester X-2 Practical or the Remington 1100?
In either case,a goodnreliable semi auto. Some 1100s have been shot .5M rounds by clay shooters.
X-2 owners seem to be a happy lot. I see more of these all the time at the range. Time will tell if these and their non evil twin Brownings will hold up.
And,an article in Guns and Ammo always accompanies a large, expensive ad. Most articles in G&A bear the same relationship to the truth as Clinton's "I did not have sex with that woman"...
One caveat, many of us have pumps for "Serious" use because autos are not quite as reliable. The gap keeps closing.
The deciding factor is the shooter, not the shotgun. If you like the weapon, get it and practice until you're deadly only to the right people.

If you consider 20 or 22 inches "short" :)
The 1100 "Competition" comes with www.3gungear.com sidesaddle, so that is a plus right there. Intended for 3-gun matches, not duck hunting. Dealer is about six and a quarter, so figure your local markup from there :scrutiny:
I'm quite fond of my Winchester SX2, but speaking from experience there are a LOT more accessories for the 1100.

What makes this Master worth close to double the money better than a Std 2 3/4" Synthetic 1100?
The Winchesters are much more in line with the other SX2's.

Picked up one two weeks ago for $750.
Bought it exclusively for "3-Gun" but it handles so well that it's
going to be my main "house" gun also.
Very good thread going at:
