I did some looking and have been eyeing the baby desert eagle 40. for some time now.

Well I finally went and purchased it after handling it a few times and checking a few things with the way the grip fit, and how easy it was to hit the slide release catch without shifting my grip, or shifting it slightly.

This will be my first handgun. but by no means the first handgun I have fired.

I pick it up 2/19 and my question is to people who have owned this gun or fired it.

How is the acuracy?
how picky is it with its ammo?
has it ever jammed on you with a certain ammo or at all?
how is the stock trigger?

I probably should have done this before I bought the thing, but I liked its look and feel so much, I had to buy it.

It will be for range shooting and home defense if for some reason I cant get to my remington 870

realmswalker: Let me be the first to welcome you to THR.

If it's anything like mine you won't be sorry you bought it.

I have the Baby Eagle .45, which is the same pistol, just different hole in the barrel. I don't think it's ever malfunctioned once, period. I hardly ever fire double action so I can't tell you much about the trigger there. Single action pull is better than a lot of other pistols, including my Beretta .45 Cougar.

I have fed it a few handloads, several boxes of Winchester 230 gr white box, Speer, SB, PMC and there was anothern I can't recall. All were 230 gr, FMJ, or HP. No problems. Oh, and about 400 rds of Wolf ammo which has a steel case that some guns (and a lot of shooters) don't like. I wouldn't use it but it's cheep and this pistol throws the brass far enough they are hard to find.

Acuracy is very good. Doesn't take anything to get used to and easy to be consistant with it.

I bought mine pretty much for personal protection (bear). I didn't clean or oil it for the first 7 or 8 months. I wanted to know when it would start to malfunction. I showed it to my gunsmith one morning when I was picking up a gun and he cleaned it before I knew it. I don't know how dirty they could get and still function. This wasn't all that dirty but it was sure getting dry. It worked perfectly so although I've only had it a year I have a lot of faith in it.

If you liked the way it felt in the shop you'll get to liking it better & better once you shoot it'

It may not be the nicest pistol to look at, but if you ever run out of bullets before you do bad guys, you can just bash them in the head with it and they'll still go down.

The only problem I've had is twice I've found the mag released. I was banging around a lot and somehow mashed on the mag release I guess. I hunted for someone to machine the button down but it hasn't happened since, so I kinda neglecting that.

I don't like the decockers on the slide.

You should have a good pistol there.

Enjoy and let us know how you like it once you shoot it.

Joe

I like mine. I have owned it about two months now and have around 500 or so rounds of Wolf, Winchester White box and reloads through it.

It has not failed to feed, eject, or go bang. The DA trigger is stiff, but the SA is sweet. This is typical of Israeli pistols.

The finish is not of Beretta or HK quality, but what do you expect for the money? The matte black is actually pretty nice. The fit of the parts is excellent. The reliability and accuracy are right up there with the more expensive pistols.

The only thing that I do not like are the rear sights. They are easy to use, and line up well, I just don't like the way they stick straight up.

I have one in 9mm. I absolutely love this thing.
It has become my favorite auto.
14" steel plates at 100 yrds are no prob for this thing.
I plan on buying a compact this year. Almost ready to trade one of my glocks for the compact.(money has been tight)
You should be happy with it.
