Have you ever bought ammo for a gun you don't even own?

I was at Sportsman's Guide on friday to pick up a few mags for my 1911 and they had some Turkish 8mm on sale for $2.00 per 70 rnd bandolier. I bought the last 630 rounds they had. My only problem is I don't own a Mauser! Anybody else ever do this? Hopefully Fleet Farm will put their Yugo Mausers on sale soon.

Yep. The local shop had .38 +p+ Federal Hydrashocks on sale for $5.99/box. That was the 50rd box, not the small one. I bought two boxes even though I didn't own a .38. Actually, I still don't own a .38! I gave them to my dad, though. Couldn't pass up that deal.

Not ammo, but I bought a bunch of Garand en bloc clips in anticipation of getting an M1 - they're still sitting unused in my ammo can!

Only as gifts!! Couple box of .378 Weatherby Mags for my brother one of his birthday. He let me shoot off about half of them a few weeks later. No muzzle brake on that unit, so it was like going a few rounds with Mike Tyson in his younger days.
Some 22-250s for another brother that doens't handload, same thing happened. I ended up helping him get rid of a few wood chucks in his garden. (would have been more fun with the .378 though!!:D

Yep - the local Wal Mart was selling their close out ammo at some ridiculously low prices - there was Winchester SuperX .308 for $4 a box! Had to buy a box even though I was without a .308 at the time. Shot some in a friend's .308 later and it shot amazingly well. Should have bought all the boxes they had on hand.
Oh yeah , I now have a .308!

I have in my closet a case of Korean .30-06 on enbloc clips.
I was so sure I was getting a CMP Garand earlier this year that I stocked up.
Well, still no Garand, yet, but I've got the ammor and clips just waiting.

I bought .243 WSSM brass, dies, shellholder and a box of Sierra MatchKing 70 gr bullets in anticipation of maybe, one of these days building and AR in .243 WSSM using the Olympic Arms upper. I'll probably have all 50 pieces of brass loaded before I get the 1st part of the rifle purchased.

Did that Sunday, looked like a great deal on 12ga small game rounds. Got to the range, opened them up, put one in the gun and realized it was 20ga. Oh well, i've been wanting a 20ga coach gun anyway.
Also have about 100 rounds of .40 a friend gave to me. Next purchase will be something to fire it out of.
On the other side I own a 7mm STW I can't seem to find ammo for anywhere. Looks like I'm going to have to order some off the net and save the brass for reloading. That stuff seems to be getting rare.

Oh, yeah. I bought out the remaining 10 boxes of Winchester WB in .308 that a local K-Mart in the PRNJ had. The stuff was originally $8.99/box, and I could see several tags pasted on top with lower and lower prices. I paid $1.99 per box, but had no .308. Now I have 2. I carried that stuff around at the bottom of a 20mm ammo can on 3 different moves before I used it - and it all got used in a Rem 700, leaving me with 100 rounds of fire-formed brass.
I'm probably about to do something similar. My C&R is on the way (supposedly), and I KNOW that I'll be acquiring several interesting guns of varying calibers over the years. I can easily see getting some for a caliber that I don't yet own if there's some special deal.

P.S. to my prior post - I also have 2 rounds of .50 BMG, one of which is a 1943 Lake City AP round, plus I've got a round of .458 Winchester. I've got no gun for either of them, and I'm regrettably not likely to ever have one (but you never know). These I got to display, for comparison purposes, with other rounds that I've got, ranging from .22 LR to .45 (mixed rifle and handgun calibers).

In anticipation of buying my first .45 Colt Vaquero, I purchased a 255 grain RNFP bullet mold, and casted 500 bullets. Then I purchase 250 pieces of once fired Black Hills brass off of E-Bay, and when that arrived, I reloaded 250 rounds of this .45 Colt...... all this 3 weeks before I bought the gun......

I bought six boxes of new W-W 30LUGER ammunition. In June '04 I finally found a 30LUGER pistol, a SIG P210-5. Oooohh itsa doozy too!!!
And then there is all of that 38S&W ammunition in the shop. Never owned a 38S&W revolver in my life. But I am ready for when the first one shows up here looking for a good home, regular vittles, and lots of exercise.

I thought I was going to buy me a factory Glock 33 barrel to stick in my Glock 27, so I bought a 50 box of .357 sig hollow points. Still no Glock 33 barrel. Maybe someday, but I doubt it.
