This has been brewing a LONG time. I've written several articles and editorials for various papers and sites over the years and the response is baffling to me. While I expect the leftists to come up with group-think justifications I get more justifications from supposed "conservatives".

The fact is we live in a weak and untested society. We haven't had a good agressive test of our mettle since the 40's and the "minor" tests we have had we have failed, either militarily or as a supporting nation. And so now we are, largely, a herd of sheep looking to Big Brother to protect us and we'll sacrifice ANYTHING for that illusion of safety. Just as long as the TV still plays and the fridge keeps the beer cold.

And some wonder why I believe a revolution is coming, whether I actually support it or not? It's because the divide is widening too quickly and becoming too deep. This isn't the same United States it was even 25 years ago, nor was it what our Founders envisioned then. And 10 years from now it won't be even the shadow of greatness that it is now. Some of us will NOT fit into that Brave New World.

A NID? They can stick that thing right up their asses because I am not going to play that game.

Yup. I won't play that game. Heck, I avoided that last two censi (censuses?).

Trust the Feds? After Waco and Ruby Ridge? I don't think so.

I voted No. (There wasn't a "Hell, No!" option, unfortunately.)

I really, really fear and dread something like this.

We're almost there now.

People have no clue how close we are to it, with the driver's license *already* being used as a de facto national I.D. card/internal passport by practically everyone.

The rest demand a Social Security number, or even the actual SSN *card*. You must produce the latter to be hired for *any* straight job now, since Clinton rammed that law through in the mid-1990s in the name of tracking down "deadbeat dads."

When I renewed my car insurance a few months ago (I dwell in a mandatory insurance state), they demanded to see my Socialist Slave Number card -- in the name of the Patriot Act and fighting terrorism, I kid you not.

Yeah, I'm sure a terrorist really wants to make sure his car or truck is adequately insured before he loads it with explosives and drives it into a building's underground parking garage.

Of course, none of this would mean diddly if there weren't hundreds of thousands ready and willing to enforce it against American citizens.

Those wanting a National ID can go pound sand until the sun rises in the West. I am a Free American, and I'll not be a frelling number.

Here's Irony: As I rant here, CNN plays a tribute/peprally for the statue of Liberty and what America is and hopes/hoped to be......:banghead:

2nd Amend. is dead bang on about whats up here in the 'Land of the Free' who sit four hours in traffic jams waiting on checkpoints and inspections as our economy is further damage by the actions of our own .gov attempting to 'keep us safe'....nope, I know where this is gonna go and I don't wanna go there tonight.

Food for thought on the Nat. ID idea. I'm sure many of you know about RFID chips (who does not anymore) and their use in pets for tracking/ID (all my cats are chipped; while they are Siovereng, they are not free). Whatcha gonna do when the ID tags are in the FOOD? Design a virus/plasmid/nanobot that mingles and catalogs your DNA, then broadcasts an ID signal based on your DNA data? Kewl eh? We could just ID a set of 20 or so genes on the chromosomes that we know vary by individial....Hmmmm....maybe on self ID immune system tags? Yea, that might work.....

If *I* can dream it up, you KNOW somebody somewhere else has, and I'd not be supprised if somebody is working on it.

I really hope they put an RFID tag on the National ID. Ditto putting RFID tags on all currency. I'd make me feel extra safe. </sarcasm> Seriously though, both have been proposed.

If they start RFID'ing currency, I will build a small portable RFID reader and call it the "Mugger Special". And advertise it for muggers who want to know how much their victims are carrying.

+1 on that.....

My friend just came back from Kentucky and he told me they are using RFID for most of the toll roads he drove on. Ain't that nice?
