H.R. 648, was recently inroduced by Rep. Joe Wilson, R.-S.C. This bill will protect the right to obtain firearms for security, to use firearms in defense of self, family or home and to provide for the enforcement of such right.
Interesting wording in the "Findings Section".

A. Police cannot protect and are not legally liable for failing to protect individual citizens.
B. Former Florida Attorney General Jim Smith told Florida legislators that police responded to only 200,000 of 700,000 calls for help to Dade County authorities.
C. The United States Department of Justice found that in 1989, there were 168,861 crimes of violence for which police had NOT responded within 1 hour.
I'm from Arizona and sending a check to Rep. Joe Wilson's reelection campaign. Go Joe Go!!!

Welcome to The High Road, AR180.

I don't want to burst your bubble, or anything, because H.R. 648 was a great bill, but it was introduced February of 2003, and it quietly went off to die in some committee or another...

Thanks Bubbles. It does look like it's sorta "dead" as in not currently moving. Can anyone shed light on strategy being used. IOW is this on the back burner for a reason or is it allready in the committe's file 13?

Perhaps the current letter I recieved from GOA indicates an effort to get this thing moving?

edited to add; Am I the only one who received this letter?

I thought we already had a provision for this--the second amendment. Maybe they should just read it a few more times.

Sorry guys, but I'm one that thinks a piece of legislation that supports the second and clarifies in plain language that my right to defend myself and family using any available firearm is better than leaving the field to the antis.
