What is the consensus on Nikon rifle scopes?

Are they decent or should they stick to cameras?

NIKON = excellent optics.

I have a few NIKON products and have a 6.5-20x44 scope that I specifically bought for shooting .223.
I also bought the 1.5-4.5x20 Shotgun scope with the ''Turkey" reticle for my 870 Super Mag.
Both scopes have extremely clear optics.

I like NIKON.

One thing I wish for in any scope on a gun is MORE EYE RELIEF.
Even with the Leupold, more is better!
Leupold seems to have more than others, including NIKON.
Choose your scopes carefully and accordingly.

IMHO, they are excellent scopes. I voted with my wallet: my Savage 10FP wears a Nikon 4.5x14.....my AR-15 wears a Nikon 3x9......my Remington .30-06 wears a Nikon 3x9.

Are they the "best"? I don't know, 'cuz I haven't tried everything out there. Do they hold zero and provide a crisp, clear sight picture? Yes.
How much more do you want?

I have a Nikon 3X9 on my 700Bdl 30.06. I really like this glass.

My next bolt gun will have a Nikon Tactical on it. Everything I've read about them is nothing but favorable. Crisp, clear optics, repeatable adjustments, stout construction. I'm looking at the 2.5x10x44 model myself.

Every one I've seen has been great and I haven't heard of any failures with them. They don't sell in huge numbers but I see enough of them that I would have thought I'd have heard at least one complaint by now.

My only issue with them is price. I'm just too cheap to buy glass that nice ;)

I'm very happy with the Nikon on my Win. Super Shadow.

They're as good as anything else in their price range, and better than some. I've got a 2-7x32 Monarch on my Sako 75. Crisp, bright image. When I look through the scope at dusk it actually seems to brighten the view; I don't know if it's an optical illusion simply because of the magnification, but it certainly seems brighter. You'll definitely get your money's worth.

P.S. I got a good price on mine from www.eagleoptics.com.

P.S.S. I hope this isn't a spoiler, but Swift scopes are a very good value for the money; they don't mass-market advertise like the big guys but their quality goes toe-to-toe. Best dealer for them is www.eabco.com.

I've got a 1.5x6 Gold Monarch. Don't think you can find a better scope for the money. Bright, clear, holds zero on my Sako 280.

I'm gonna get a 4x for a 243 I'm fooling with.

The only bad word I've EVER heard about a Nikon product was that their customer service was poor.

Caveats:

1. The guy who made the statement is a Zeiss/Swarovski/Kahles dealer.
2. I've never heard of anyone having problems with a Nikon scope and needing customer service.

I literally cannot see a difference between my Monarch and my Leupold Vari-X II 3x9s. Both were in the $250 to $300 range and have been flawless, and I'm happy with them.
