CZ75's or Browning HP's?

The first pistol I ever shot was an old Browning HP (with not firing pin safety!!) The trigger was smooth, and it was accurate.

The pistol I've begun to fall in love with lately, is the CZ75.

To me, both are on par... So I thought I'd see what the jury a la THR would say..

Both are great guns. The BHP just feels better to me.

I'd go w/ the Browning. You can't go wrong w/ an original :D

Hello. I really like both the CZ and the Hi Power, but voted for the HP.

Best.

The Browning is a classic, no doubt about it.

The CZ is like an updated HP with DA trigger. Accurate, reliable, and a few hundred bucks cheaper than the HP. For little over half the price, I'd go with a CZ.

Long before the Glock. The Cee-Zed was KING of the DA Nines.
P-35 Hi-Power has a better trigger, until you get to the CZ75SA
or one of the Match Grade competition models.

I like the Browning, a CZ75 just fits me better. Bigger in all
areas and better controls than the P-35 of old, you can't
go wrong with either gun.

I like the feel of the BHP and CZ. They both balance well, are dependable, and accurate. I chose CZ. Why? I think the CZ is more visually appealing.

There's no "bad" choice in the two right??

What about accuracy?? Reliability? Both are more dependable then Maytag washers?

Both the BHP and CZ are reliable and accurate. It's pretty much a "6 of one, half dozen of the same" type of thing. So, to answer your question, there really is no bad choice.:D

I never wanted a 9mm.

Then I bought a CZ Military because of the absurdly low price and strong reputation. Still very happy with it after a few years. Much happier since I put the dayglo yellow-green sight paint on it.

So a year or so ago I bought a BHP. I liked it a lot at first, especially after I put the Spegels on it. Then I learned to remove the mag disconnect(big vise, big hammer, steel punch, etc.) Liked it better. Last week I bobbed the hammer and relieved the back of it too(piece of cake compared to getting the trigger pin out.)

Life is good.

I love CZs. I have two (the 75B and a 40B) and I plan to get more. I've shot a HP clone (an FEG) and it was very impressive.

Right now I'd have to go w/ CZ since I know it better. I'll let you know after I get a HP (soon) if I still prefer CZ.

Ummmmmm, let me think.

HI POWER !!

Yup, then, later, get a CZ75B.

I own both and like both, but voted for the BHP. Its just feels a bit better to me and I lean towards single action autos. Both are fine pistols.

This is one of those choices with no wrong answer. Both guns rule. I picked the CZ-75.

I choose CZ over the BHP. I like both, but if your CZ runs out of ammo you can crack th bg's skull with the frame. :D

I chose the BHP, because you get a slightly more compact frame, without giving up any barrel length.

I think the durability may lean slightly toward the cz with the polymer finish.

cost favors cz hands down.

I don't think it's fair to compare triggers, apples to oranges. The SA pull on the HP may be slightly better but the DA pull on the CZ is much better than that on the HP. ':D'

capacity favors cz by 2 rounds.

confidence factor(trust with life): both 10 out of 10

fun factor: same as above

I like the way the CZ does the frame rails. Superior IMNSHO

i voted cz but I would like an hp. Problem is that 75SA is cheaper so I will get one of those first.

I like the CZ's. But, then, I'm a CZ-aholic!!!:what:

I like CZs but I prefer Brownings. I've got trouble with two lemon CZs but I've never had a single problem with any FN Browning. NIB Brownings aren't that easy to find. CZs are plentiful. I would get a Browning first and then a CZ.

The CZ75 platform has always seemed very BHP-inspired though I am told they aren't that similar. Both are very comfortable to me, more comfortable in fact than my beloved 1911. That backstrap is just perfect on the CZ.

I've owned perhaps 8 CZs and EAAs and never a BHP though I would snatch up an older, blued, basic, fixed sight BHP for the right price if I found one.

Two great guns and tough to choose between them. I picked the HP though and yet would never feel that the CZ was a lesser gun. I prefer the inverted rail design of the CZ and believe it adds to an already well designed pistol, but my HPs simple feel better.

Well, I love the HP and carry one. But it's tough to get a good trigger pull unless you send it to someone like C&S for their special sear lever (big bucks).

Also, the HP tends to wear out fairly quickly if you shoot a lot of hot loads. The ones made after 1994 have better steel but are still a little "tender". The CZ seems to be more durable.

On the other hand, the HP is a bit more compact, and much easier to get holsters for.

Hey there dairycreek, May I ask what kind of holster you have there with your CZ. I think the two tone CZ's look real nice.

A little over 2 years ago, I bought a Turkish Mil surplus CZ 75B from J&G sales complete with tritium night sights for less than $325. I bought the pistol because I was looking for a 9mm that was accurate enough for casual slow fire target shooting, and I'd heard good things about this pistol.

I wasn't really impressed. The CZ shot over 4" high at 15 meters and scattered rounds all over the target. It turns out that the night sights were aftermarket and not really matched to the pistol. Not only that, the rear sight was too small for the dovetail, and it kept drifting in spite of my efforts to keep it in place.

I kept the CZ, but bought a new Browning HP and sent it off to have the barrel crowned, adjustable sights, and some trigger work done. I figured that I'd work up the handload that gave this pistol its best accuracy, and practice, practice, practice. Although my shooting improved, I could never seem to get all 10 rounds where I wanted them in the target.

Eventually, my thoughts returned to the CZ. I sent the slide to MMC sights and had a set of their adjustables installed. Then I took both the CZ and the HP to the range together.

The HP has a much crisper trigger with absolutely no creep. I took out the mag disconnect, but the trigger is still quite heavy. As such, it is especially sensitive to finger placement on the trigger and tends to push to the left (I'm right handed) unless I have a death grip on it and my finger is exactly in the right place on the trigger (past the second knuckle). The CZ has a grittier trigger, but once I got the feel for it I could tell exactly where it would break, so it's kind of like a two stage trigger. It's very consistent.

With custom handloads, the accuracy is close, but I'd give the HP the edge from the bench rest. With commercial loads shooting offhand, however, it's not even a contest. The HP is very fussy while the CZ's accuracy is consistent with almost any load.

Now when I go out shooting for bullseyes, I take my CZ. If I want a little variety, I'll take the HP along, too.

among all the other good things said around here i believe you all forgot how easy it is to field strip and clean the browning. i'm not familiar with the cz however so i have no way to compare them in this respect. but i know i can strip and reaasemble mine literally in seconds.

CZs and HPs field-strip in exactly the same fashion...pull the slide back a wee bit, push out the slide stop lever, and pull the slide off the frame.

Stephen A. Camp
February 22, 2003, 04:57 PM
Hello. The field-strip procedure's very similar, but the HP's slide is locked back using the thumbsafety. Push the slide release up and out. The CZ requires the slide be retracted a little (just line up the witness marks) and then push out the slide stop.

Neither is difficult at all.

Best.
