The thread about the Model 10 has me thinking (always dangerous at this time of night). In your opinion, what is the best S&W .38 of all time?

I'm interested in models which have the best overall blend of style, function, performance and history. If you can support your opinions with pictures and comments, so much the better!

Thanks!

Any .38 Spl? Hmmm... I guess I'd want a five screw K-38 Combat Masterpiece.

A choice one is in a local shop for $265 it is "combat masterpiece" I think as barrel is 4" . If I knew somebody who was getting into shooting I'd reccomend it above anything else in shop.:)

Ditto on a post-war K38 Masterpiece.

Can't decide -- either the model 10 on the left, or the model 15 on the right. Four inch barrels.

Actually, for me, 2 models come to mind...
The K-38 "Combat Masterpiece"
The Military & Police/ Model 10 (OK, OK...3 models, if ya want to differentiate between the M&P vs. Model 10)

When I hear the term 'Service Revolver', the 4" M&P/Model 10 is what image first pops up.

the best .38 would have to be one of the Airweights. Perfect weight to recoil ratio. Right now I'm debating between all three, the 642 centennial, the 638 bodyguard, or the plain Jane 637. My debate will most likely end with which ever one I find at the best price point.:D

I'm going to stretch your question a little and ask what is your favorite 38? Hope you don't mind. My favorite 38 is a Colt Detective Special. I love them.
Sorry can't help it.

4thhorseman - I currently don't have a favorite .38. I don't have any .38, except that I shoot a lot of .38 rounds through my 686.

For the most part, I'm a pistol guy, but I do like shooting wheelguns once in a while. I was drawn to a Model 10 (as mentioned in another post), but thought I'd ask around and see if there was something else that might be worth looking at.

From what I see here, it sounds like the K-38 is definitely one to consider.

It's a toss up between the 4" Model 15 and 2" Model 10.

I love my K-38 5 screw, but for everyday use my model 64 4 inch heavy barrel ranks high( it didn't cost much and shoots great)

My M1905 4th Change Target Model made during the mid-1920s. There's a pic in my post in this thread (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?threadid=2764).

Note the grips which do not have the S&W eustacheons, a feature found on their guns for 2 or 3 years during the 20s.

It has a McGivern bead front sight, and an adjustable rear sight.

(Sorry for the lousy photo.)
