Hi all.

I'm a traditionalist and am looking for the following:

1) Plain (no diamond design or anything) checkered, wood, GI-spec grips, real surplus would be cool.

2) Dark walnut grips with the double diamond design, similar to what's on the WWI Repro, darker than what comes stock on the NRM Ser. 80 1991A1.

Where can I find these?

If anyone has pics of either of the above on a blued or stainless Colt 1911/1991, I'd much appreciate it!

Thanks!!

www.pickagrip.com should have or be able to get what you want.

Try Ebay, type 1911 grips in the search bar. I have bought several here.

SARCO may have some.
Check the ad in Shotgun News.

Yeah, I'd suggest eBay as well. I've probably bought two dozen pairs of grips off eBay... more than from any other source.

I would caution you to beware of some listers that would describe their grips as original GI grips... You often get what you pay for... But if they look like what you're looking for, then go with them. I'd be hesitant to plop down serious coin for GI grips off eBay unless you know exactly what you're looking at... In other words, I wouldn't take many sellers at their words.

for plain GI type grips, I'd check out Simpson Limited (http://www.simpsonltd.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=SL&Category_Code=GR)

for Walnut DD grips, I'd go with Cylinder & Slide's (https://shop.cylinder-slide.com/ccp5/clickcartpro/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?usr=50X397949&rnd=6900939&rrc=N&cip=68.163.88.245&pg=cat&ref=CS1911W) reproduction pieces:

Brownells...18 bucks...I'll come up with a part number in a while.
They're mahogany, and the color ain't exactly right, but a little linseed oil and age will darken'em up nice. With or without the double diamond pattern.

Stand by...

You can also try Hogue Grips. they have selections ranging from GI Walnut to some pretty exotic woods in both checkered and plain. They list a number of 1911 makers so go here:

http://www.hogueinc.com/getgrip/merchant.ihtml?id=2&step=2

and select the Colt and you will see the listings of grips offered. Most woods have pics so you can get an idea what they wil look like.
