I am thinking I want another 1911 and have read some good things about the new s&w. I have handled it and am impressed with its quality. Do any of you have one or shot one? If so please post. Any and all opinions and first hand experienes appreciated. Its between the it and a new colt.

I know that we ordered a pair of 'em 'way back in Springtime for one of our best customers, and they finally arrived in mid July. He seemed tickled and hasn't returned with any complaints. The guy's a pretty high-volume shooter, and I believe he's using one for his main CCW piece...

Gun blast has a review (http://www.gunblast.com/S&W1911Sc.htm) for that particular model.

But isn't it the same weight as an alloy framed Commander model anyways? Scandium made sense for adding strength to the alloy frames of revolvers to handle magnum rounds, but for the .45 Commander...

Thanks for the link and now I have more questions. the author mentions that the SC 1911 is ALMOST the ultimate CCW, whatcha think he prefers?
PS, how do they do a gun test and not post target pics, ammo used?!
Thanks all

Super gun.
The commander sized model I looked at had a trifle of a problem with the grip disconnect (worked only when grabbed just right) and the trigger was a bit heavy. I loved everything else about it. Using scandium for a lw 1911 is a great idea.

the SC 1911 is ALMOST the ultimate CCW

Well, he said whatever it is, needs a lefty friendly safety lever since he is one of those lefty people. And it needs tritium night sights, with those two, he concluded the review by saying it would be the ultimate CCW...

Well, since a friend just bought one, I'll probably be able to try it in the near future.

When I spoke to someone at S&W a couple weeks ago, they said that they were back ordered almost 4,000 units around the country, and were trying hard to catch up to the initial demand.

I have two NIB. They're -very- nice pistols, IMO. I have one currently for sale, I'm considering keeping the other as a CC piece for myself. I'm thinking if the scandium frames can handle 44 mag, the scandium 1911 might tolerate a little 45 Super - might.

These are very light, balance well, and should be about the most durable Al alloy 1911 on the market; I can see where one might consider them close to being the ultimate CCW, I wouldn't spend much if any time arguing against that claim.

I've held one. The fit and finish was pretty decent. Easy pointability. Tigh slide to frame fit. Only gripe is that it was so tight that it would get stuck upon returning to battery. I had to nudge the slide a little for the slide to fully return to battery.

Beautiful pistol, ugly rollmarks as usual on the S&W 1911's.
