Two-gun shooting; Anyone tried it?

The thread about movie guns prompted this question. In movies such as "The Matrix" and others, blazing away with two guns is the preferred method of gunfighting.
Has anyone tried this for real?
I have thought about it, but I can't bring myself to break all the practice and training I have put myself through, not to mention how silly I'd feel being seen doing it.
Well? Any takers?

not to mention how silly I'd feel being seen doing it Go ahead and try it. Life's too short to worry about what other people think about when they see you having fun.
I've seen a couple of people post about it. Seems like the fun factor is high, the accuracy factor is low. Sort of like full auto, you could say, but less hassle...

I do it from time to time on my property in northern Michigan. I have a loaded stainless Springfield 1911, and the WW2 version of the same gun. Accuracy is of course low, but man is it fun!

I like to play with it ocassionally.
i do a lot of hip shooting and out to 7 I can make 85% hit with strong hand and 55% with the weak one.
I use a M10 and a M13

For Cowboy Action Shooting they have "Gunslingers"
And from what I understand they have to draw both guns and shoot left, right, left, ect...
That sounded very hard to me so I gave it a try at the range, it is hard but it's also very fun.
I wasn't fast, that's for sure:p

Find you a piece of land where someone's thrown out an old washer or dryer, refridg, even an old car door or something. Use it as the bad guy at about 25-30 yards, be Rambo man, see what you can do!
Disclaimer, those items, when in someone's front or back yard are not good choices and don't count. :neener:

I've tried it with a pair of Kimber .45ACP M1911s. Let's just say that it was alot of fun but........not very accurate. :uhoh: :D

Like everyone said, it is fun. I did it with a pair of Beretta 92s. I made a lot of noise, but did not get many holes in the target. I shot at a coffee can on the ground at 20 feet or so. Rapid fire strong hand doing this I can probably hit 12 out of fifteen, weak hand rapid fire, maybe 10 of fifteen. Both hands rapid fire probably matched my weak hand score of 10, but out of 30.
In any serious situation the second gun would stay in my holster for a "New York reload", or hang at my side waiting for the first gun to reach slide lock. I hope if I am ever in a situation that serious I have a rifle or shotgun instead.
DO IT,,, it is fun, and your results may vary.:D

I've tried it with various subguns and pistols...not quite as effective as in counter strike :D.
Now if REALLY effective two handed shooting, you might one to try this thing...NOT.

I went to a bowling pin match.
For a contribution to a local charity you got to usa a pair of .44 caliber Black powder revolvers to try and hit five bowling pins on the table.
Loud, fun, smoky and I didn't hit much. Even better, someone else cleaned and loaded the pieces.

Maybe I'm taking things too seriously, but for me, missing is no fun.:(
I might try point-shooting with alternating hands, but even cheap ammo is too expensive for me to more or less spray downrange.
I'm glad to hear that others are laid back enough just to enjoy lettin' her rip! :D
Safely, of course.;)

I've done it with two Glock 19's, and my accuracy went way down. I've also dumped two mags simultaneously with my full-auto Uzi carbine and my brother's full-auto Uzi carbine. My accuracy was horrendous, but I looked cool doing it.

I tried it in the desert once, used both of my 1911's. I ended up pulling the trigger at the same time and the recoil of the gun caused the gun to bang together.
I didn't try it anymore after that. 16 rds and I missed as empty propane tank at 15 yrds.

Ive used two Mosin 91/30's at the same time, needless to say it isnt very accurate and what kicks more than one mosin? TWO! lol
But I can shoot from the hip quite well and put it on the paper at 50 yards using various rifles, and under 7 yards it isnt very hard with a pistol.

Did it with a .44 Desert Eagle in one hand and a .50 Desert Eagle in the other...
then again with a pair of 6" Dan Wesson .357's...
MOST fun was with my and my fathers Smitty 637 snubbies...
As said, accuracy sucks... and it is kinda a waste of ammo, but it IS fun!
and when I did it at a range, with the matched pair of Dan Wessons, I MIGHT have looked like an idiot, but then so did all (and I mean ALL) the other people at the range... since they all came over and asked to try it...
12 or 13 people awaiting their turn to try it out... some were LEO's... and SOMEONE went and bought me a couple hundred rounds of Winchester JSP's to use...
all in all, it was GREAT fun... not that I'd wanna do it every time i went.

I have wanted a pair of .45s since I was old enough to attend a Saturday Matinee, and tall enough to give the girl in the ticket booth a dime (which was the admission price back then). Finally, at 70, I have realized my dream - a pair of .45 Colt Nountain Guns, 625-6 mods. A friend has a 50 acre farm, with a cut-bank one acre hill in the middle which is his private range backstop. I can achieve adequate speed with either hand, and ALL rounds fired have hit the hill ... so far. This is all for fun, hip shots and point shooting, but like any other type of shooting, it improves with practice. Again, all for fun, but the practice has lessened the time it takes, on a serious draw, to get the front sight lined up. Puts a nice new "edge" on your serious shooting, just by adding to your familiarity with the guns. Weak-hand practice, even this sort, is never a waste of ammo, either.

Yeah, but it doesn't work too well. Took me forever to drop the 6 steel plates (between 20 and 30 yards).
It's more photogenic than fun; hitting stuff is fun :)

Whoa, Skunk! A little Gansta thrown in, eh? Maybe you'll be The Next Action Hero. We need some more Singing Heroes.:D
The old cowboy left, right, left, right can be very accurate.
Are we talking about both guns at arm's length, shooting as fast as you can pull the triggers, a la The Matrix? At least they accurately portrayed al the misses. Of course, the movie wouldn't have lasted long if they had just put one gun down and used a good two-handed hold, and AIMED!

August 15, 2004, 10:31 PM
Heck yeah! And as others have said, yes, it's a waste of ammo, and yes, it's very inaccurate. I don't care...it's fun. My Kimber .45 in one hand, Steyr 9mm in the other, and shortly after 22 rounds downrange.
throwing a little 'gangsta style' into the mix doesn't work too well with 2 guns...they tend to smack into each other (or nearly so!).

when shooting two handguns at the same time, I've noticed two things:
shooting one hand at a time (ie - left-right-left-right, etc) is the most accurate.
when shooting both hands at the same time (ala The Matrix) my dominant hand tends to take over.
Like everyone said... It's a lot of fun. Go give it a try!

I've found it works best when sliding on your back down a bannister or on your front across a slippery floor.
For extra accuracy be sure to be chewing on a toothpick or a cigar stub.
To be considered a master of the skill you must be able to dodge incoming rounds by turning a somersalt in the air, landing with a shoulder roll and then hitting multiple targets. A flowing cloak or cape will improve your aim.

Used my USPc .40 and my brother's matching gun. Absolutly fun! The only concern was how the weak hand gun tended to drift back while the strong side got pushed forward. I could see this getting dangerous if I didn't pay attention.
Using two single action rugers in .22 on a 18" steel plate at 30' I found it pretty easy to hit 90% of the time. It's just not real fast.
.22 semi-auto pistols would seem to be the way to do this cheaply and have lots of fun. I'll have to dig up another and give it a try.

I've thought about this since getting my second gun, but I would be quite unbalanced, one of my guns being a Makarov (9x18) and the other a CZ-52 (7.62x25). Maybe if I shot the Mak from the weak hand it would balance things out a little.....
A Makarov in one hand and a CZ in the other.....Matrix, Eastern Bloc style! :D

I had to make a music video for class so I used the chorus for "Nice shot man" by filter and looped it. Then I did all the camera tricks and funs stuff I could think of doing. One of those fun things was taking my M40 in one hand and my Sig p239 in the other and emptied the mags. I then took some close up shot of a target being slow fired upon, sped up the shots and inserted them as cuts so it looked like I was real accurate with my to gun shooting.
It was funny how many people thought I could actually shot like that. :D
In reality if my target would have been a 4'x4' sheet of plywood at 20' I would have hit it most of the time.

I've tried with a pair of .45's, and a .45 and a 9mm. It was fun, but not pretty. I guess it's OK for supressive fire, but I wouldn't bet on its efficacy. I need a whole lot moe practice:D

I used to play 'Area 51' all John Woo style. Got pretty good at it too.
Remember, just because you can do it in the arcade to devestating effect doesn't mean you can do it in real life with any hope of hitting a thing.
I just took it as more evidence that Grossman is full of it...

Yup, I tried it with a couple of Star Model S .380s. Like everyone else already said, fun but inaccurate. I also had to try gangsta-style, which was also highly overrated.
Go ahead and try it. Life's too short to worry about what other people think about when they see you having fun.
Exactly. After I got done trying it, the guy 3 lanes down from me said, "Looks like someone's been watching too many movies!". But so what? Now I've done that, and I can honestly tell someone else what it's like.

In response to comments:
gangsta style: I was taught when shooting one handed to cant the gun so the sight plane is tilted towards your centerline, works for me.
left hand gun: When not shooting I normally have gun tucked in retention position but here it's tilted down as to not sweep my other paw.

The only way that I can do it and hit much of anything regularly is to alternate between strong and weak hand, closing the eye on the non-firing side as required.
Wouldn't win any speed contests, but after some practice I can at least keep all of them on a silhouette's torso out to 15 yds or so.
BTW, this is a gas when you use a pair of Colt 1860 replicas and an 8" steel plate. Talk about a challenge! Just finding the target through the smoke is tough.

Tried it quite a few times.
Tried it with two .22s (Ruger MkII and Beretta Neo)
Tried it with two 9x18mm (identical Makarovs)
Tried it with two 9x19mm (BHP and CZ-75)
Tried it with two .45 (Springfield and Kimber)
That's me with two Maks:
http://bodya.com/albums/day_range/102_G.sized.jpg
The bigger the caliber the harder it is to control TWO pistols at the same time while using only one hand on each. .45s get out of control quickly, and there's not much you can hit when using two of them. Makarovs and full-size 9mm are more fun, IF you shoot one at a time not-so-fast. Still slower and less accurate then using one gun with two hands. .22s are the best - you can control the guns and practice fast instictive shooting without relying on sights. With some practice you can get good hits with two .22s - rapid fire.
Word of caution - don't try using Gangsta grip when shooting two semi-autos. The slides with hit each other during recoil. Yes, I know, we learn from mistakes ;)

i tried 2 gun shooting for the first time last night. and as everyone said, it's a hoot! i had a glock 19 in my left and a beretta 92 in my right. at first i was alternating shots between my left and right hand but after a couple of shots, i started firing both simultaneously rapidly. i dunno when i started giggling but was LOL by the time the magazines were empty in a few seconds!
btw, the approx 2'x3' target was 20 feet away and the "grouping" was all over that target :)
edit: plus after watching underworld, kate beckinsale looks so good firing double guns that i had to give it a try!

I learned to shoot using two .480 Rugers (with 2'' barrels), firing simultaneously. I find it's really not difficult at all. I don't use sights of course, I'm usually looking at the crowds of beautiful women who have thronged about to gape at my magnificence. Naturally, all of my bullets print in the center of each target, as I am an exceptionally good shot, not to toot my own horn, you understand. Oh! Have to go, my girlfriends are begging for a little attention.

I've only got one pistol so i've never tried the 2 gun thing. but The thing is i'm Ambidextrous so I can shoot almost as well with either hand. Last man standing, great redo of Clints' "For a few dollars more".
I especially liked it when Bruce puts on his double shoulder holster rig on.
And the grips are pointing backwards!!!
I hate that when I go up against gangsters with TSMG's.
Besides the inaccuracy effect, how many of you have Lara crofts's backpack mag carrier for those rapid reloads. Or do you just shove a heater down your pants then alternate?
Antonio Banderas had the best Idee, take Selma with you and make her reload!!
I know, it's all in fun, but there you go.

I took 2 smith 686p's loaded with hot 357's, one in each hand. and started blasting away.:what:

once with matched p220st's, another time with matched gp100's(.38 loadings), and one final time with two glocks a 22 and a 21. the p220st's were hard to control, the gp100s were surprisingly accurate, and the glocks were bad(one gun kept lifting from muzzle rise, while the other stayed on target). 3 things i learned:
1. matched guns are easier to simultaneously shoot.
2. it seems very easy to blow off one of your own hands.
3. go left, right, left, right, i.e. alternate your shots.

Shooting with 2 guns is like anything else, it reqires practice. I shoot with 2 quite a bit. I can shoot better with 1 gun at a time, but I can do it with two.
Did some FX with two guns, good way to clear a house with 'T' intersections.

Last man standing, great redo of Clints' "For a few dollars more".
You're thinking of Fistful of Dollars, by that genius, Sergio Leone, which was a beautiful homage to Kurosawa's Yojimbo. Last Man Standing has elements of both. Yojimbo is a great flick. If you can't find it in the foreign film section of your video store, buy it!
No two-gun shooting there, as there is only one gun in the film, a Single Action Army, I believe. It takes two hands to wield a sword, and the title character...he's as bad as they come.

I watched Lara Croft: Tomb Raider last night. Even though the bonus features showed her being trained by a former SAS using a Hi-Power and MP5K with live ammo, I'm convinced that Skunkabilly was her actual movie advisor, since she used his "semi-gangsta" tilt* while doing her two-gun thing.:D
To the credit of the cast, they did a pretty good job of keeping fingers off triggers when at ready positions.
*Skunk, I've seen the slight tilt recommended in other places as well. If you hit the target, that's what counts.
