New USP w/ colored frames

Just saw an ad in Guns and Ammo for them. Available in grey, green and tan...but why no 9mm?
Has anyone seen one in person. Unfortunatly, a grey .40 compact is now on my wish list.

Are they an official HK item or is this some aftermarket treatment?

They are a limited run from HK.

What, no blue, white, or even hot pink? How do they expect their guns to sell here in the PRK unless they come in psychedelic colors?

Hippy-inspired sillyness aside, I rather like the idea of off-color frames. Makes inadvertant flashes of one's cc-gun draw less attention from easily-startled sheeple. White would hide under a thin-ish Kaliforny-typical business-attire shirt most effectively, lessening 'printing' concerns considerably. Other "non-gun" colors would fail to register as "Omighod-a-GUN!" during quick glimpses when your shirt-tail/jacket/photo-journalist's vest rides up by accident. That could prevent a BOATLOAD of hassles, particularly here in blissninny-central. You could even hide stuff "in plane sight", purloined-letter style. It couldn't be a dangerous weapon if you have it out where anybody could see it any old time, right? People/criminals keep 'em outta sight to avoid getting picked-on by cops or alerting victims, yes? So that's a bright-blue cell-phone/pager/iPod/what-have-you, but certainly not a GUN, oh no...

Or so I would like to believe, anyhow. Might have the drawback of removing some BG intimidation factor, though, should they decide it's not a REAL gun, forcing you to convince 'em the hard way, which is perhaps an unwanted complication to say the least. And no day-glo/neon/flourescent orange frames, as that's the color that all the toys in this state are made in now, as mandated by a law passed after a cop shot a kid with a black toy gun that looked TOO real at the wrong time.

Hmmm. We also have a law against producing guns that "don't look like guns in the usual sense", such as wallet pistols or other such disguises. I wonder if off-color frames could run afoul of that, just because guns aren't usually white or blue or yellow or whatever?

Hey, if Kel-tec can do it, why not? You can add any pigment to your polymer you might want. Wasn't the Isreali BUL the competition gun at the SHOT show that was set up in pink a year or two ago? I seem to rember folks gouging out their eyes at the sight, and a lot of off-color jokes...

The grey looks cool. Very Teutonic. But, I'll stick with Tactical Black.;)

The grey looks okay... not the rest though.

I was hoping they'd color match the slide. A Bear Cote type of gray on the gray frame would be cool.

I must admit that I hate the idea of brightly colored real firearms, outside of very limited competition use. They create a dangerous thought pattern in the mind. I prefer to think "brightly colored is a toy". Why? How many times have we heard the story of the officer responding to a call only to find a child with a toy gun. Assume it's real, and we have a tragedy in the making. Assume it's a toy, and the proliferation of brightly colored real guns will be a different tragedy all together. Sure, bad guys can just paint a real gun, just as some modify toy guns to look real (avoid mandatory prison sentences for use of a firearm), but let's minimize the risk, shall we.

Criminals have been known to paint their guns bright colors in the past.

Make my HK black please.
