I have not looked through the Geovids, but I recently spent months agonizing and researching looking to upgrade to top-end glass. I ended up with a pair of Leica 10 X 42 Ultravids. I looked through everything, and I would put these glasses right up there with the Swarovski's, Zeiss, Kahles, etc. Leica's super-tough construction is what sold me on their product. If the Geovids have the same optics as the Ultravids with the addition of the ranging feature, you cannot go wrong. In this price class, you are really going to be hard-pressed to be disappointed. Also, I would reccommend SWFA's samplelist.com as the place to buy.

Like TangSafetyM77, I also have a set of the 10x42 Ultravids. They are awesome.

Nobody I know has laid hands on the new Geovids yet. I am very happy with my LRF1200.. I expect the new Geovids to be very good.

My attorney/gun dealer has these. When I tried them I found it difficult to range objects with the 10x magnification. Any movement at all in the binnocs and what I was ranging would move. If you have the opportunity - and you're set on getting some Geovids - look at the 8x model. I don't what your application is, but where I hunt a 10x binnocular is too much magnification. I carry Swarovski 8X56's and a Leica 7x range finder and most of the time the 7x range finder is all I use, the binnocs spend a lot of time in my pack.

rick_reno:

Sounds like the 8x would be the ticket, if the 7x RF is great than an 8x which was also a bino would reason to be outstanding. My thoughts are 1 great glass binos which can be used to range while scanning for game. No need for unecessary movement or for carrying and using two seperate items. Instead of just using a poorer performing 7x mono to glass for game, one could use far better optics, with greater capability and the ability to become familier with distances from a stand at the same time..

Two questions:

1. Lieca made some older RF binoculars which went for about $3000.00. Are these what your friend had or were they the new Geovids??

2. Were the Geovids you tried any harder to range for reasons other than their magnification strength?? Do they operate in a similar fashion as the Lieca rangefinder??

Thanks again, Robert

They were the newer Geovids, he got them for a hunt he was going on in New Zealand this year. I'm pretty sure I could have held them steady enough to use if they magnification was less - at 10x a little movement really moves things you're looking around.
