I recently switched to SSR at IDPA from SSP..holy crap..it's a whole different world...at first I couldn't hit crap, then there's the reloads...slow as molassis.......I think I'm finally getting the hang of it though..it's good to challange yourself...I was kind of at a stand still with my G17(not that I am where I want to be)....but I told myself I was going to shoot the revolver till I could hit something:D
I don't know if I'll shoot ONLY the revolver from now on,but it sure is challanging. And lots of fun.
Last week when I did the COF,it was revolver night..so most of us were in the same place.....now if I could only out shoot the auto guys....:D

Which revolver? What did you choose for gear (e.g. holster, reloader, reloader pouches)?

I'm thinking of doing some SSR myself in the coming months.

Thanks in advance,

I shoot primarily revolver and really enjoy it. Takes a little extra thought but not enough to make my head hurt too bad.

This year I shot the MA IDPA Championship with a Glock in SSP, the NH State match with my 625, and will shoot my S&W 1911 this weekend in CDP at Pioneer. I will then go back to revolver as that is really where the fun is.

If you need gear suggestions let me know I have been shooting a round gun since 1972 and have probably tried most of what is available.

You would think shooting that long I could hit something

BTW, if you really want to be challenged, try a 36 round USPSA field course. Now that makes my head really hurt :banghead:

I got a Ruger Speed six..(357)I use a Desantis Thumb break holster(looking for one w/ out the thumb break)I use HKS speed loaders, and an Uncle Mike's double speedloader pouch....
The gun was a real find, and sfter my trade only cost me $50....
The speed loaders were the hard part.....finding one's for the Six series is tough...I use one's for a k frame and they work OK,but are a little off.......just adds to the challange I guess....

For a holster, try Talon Tactical (http://home.earthlink.net/~mikebenedict/talontactical.htm) for a Kydex holster. Mike knows revolvers and his holsters are well made.

For speed loaders try SL Variant. E mail is speedloaderslvariant@yahoo.com He also sells an open top holder that works real well. Use the HKS for the initial load at the start of the stage and the SL for the loads during. The reload fast so three should be enough to start with.

The Ruger is a good revolver but difficult for me to get used to the trigger.

Good luck with IDPA,

I've been shooting IDPA with my S&W 610 and just got a 646 that I plan to make my "game" gun. Since there are few revolver shooters at our local matches, I stand-up by default.

It does feel good to start beating some of the auto guys, and I can't remember how many auto shooters have come and commented that they couldn't deal with a DA trigger all the time, and expressing appreciation on how hard it must be.

"...lots of fun..." That's what shooting is about. Nothing else matters. If it stops being fun. Quit. Although, I'd change shooting games first.
