Aquired a M100 Winchester today with a Boch&Lomb 6x scope, the manufacture date is1967 or 68 in about 95% + on the metal, the wood showed some varnish wear and cracking. I paid $100 under blue book so that is no big deal.
Took it apart and already have the stock ready to finish. The old varnish or what ever came off with some glass scraping , no wood damage at all so I will be able to put it back to as good or better than factory.
Now am looking forward to shooting it, but will be late next week as it takes a week to put the right finish on the stock.
Sure do like these older Winchesters!

When I graduated from high school in 1965, I went to work at May Co. in sporting goods and toys. Weird department combination. Sporting goods had a M-100 in .308 and I thought it was the most beautiful rifle in the world. When I wasn't busy I would take it out of the display case and just hold it. It was pretty tough to buy one when only making $1.50 an hour, minimum wage then.

I always said I would own one, but I just haven't run across the one that suits me like that one did back in 1965.

I know what you mean I started work for mininum wage when it was $o.75 worked 55 hrs a week for $ 44 take home

Go to the Winchester website, and browse until you find their window about the firing-pin recall for the Model 100. They have a 1-800 #, but it's only answered weekdays from 1PM to 4PM Central Time.

Not all 100s had the problem. You might consider contacting your local gunsmith...
