Really good movie. I'll have to watch it again today or tomorrow. Defoe is really awsome in this one. What a character. But is he a character the Pink Pistols would like?

So let me get this straight, we've got a huge guy theory, and we've got a serial crusher theory.

I loved the scene where they're getting ready to dash into the peep show. "Is everybody Oh-be Kay-be?"

"I'll tip her!"

After reading all the raves about TBS, I ran out and bought it. And I was not disappointed.

Much.

I thought it was great up until "Da" showed up in his Greek fisherman's Matrix getup...and I tend to have a problem with movies that veer off into ranting pontification...

But other than that, it was great. And Dafoe was just amazing. That man puts himself out there, which is a lot more than I can say for the majority of "actors" out there.

Sorry, being in Taiwan, I only have the vcd...

But great movie!

Why, you two are SAINTS!!

So while he's getting us some bagels, anybody else want something?

So we have a big guy theory...

Besides the above, Mom's phone call almost put me in the hospital.

Mom: "The one with the bigger ****!! Ha-HAHAHAH!!"

Barkeep: "****!! ***!!" (Sorry, Oleg!)

On the BDS website, they counted the number of times the F-word was used in the movie. 249, I believe. Surpassed by the Southpark movie, but they had the F-word song to pad their stats.

What would be cool is if this movie turned into a cult classic like Rocky Horror. Guns, tats, shades, peacoats, and stuffed cats for required attire.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but...

I will anyway.

I saw this movie over the weekend (largely based on the glowing reviews I read here) and was sorely disappointed.

Bad acting, bad narrative structure, hackneyed plot, terrible cinematography, bad directing...

Suffice to say, I wish I could have my $12 (for the DVD) and 2 hours back.

Full Disclaimer - I am somethng of a movie snob (not in the "I just loved that foreign film by Jacques Snoot-Nose about 3 young women in Paris discussing their taste in post-Enlightenment art" sense - if anything foreign films are even worse than American ones) but I know what I like, and this wasn't it.

Hey, if we all liked the same thing, there'd be only one flavour of yoghurt.

It's a good, fun, unhook your brain beer-and-munchies movie. Fine directing, beautiful camerawork and ground-breaking plot ... best go someplace else. But jolly good fun for them that likes it.

Lately I've become a "sound snob" in DVDs... Signs was pretty good in that regard, and it actually coulda been sorta scary, if I'd just been able to stop muttering "get a gun, you idiot..."

I saw this during shot show weekend. While a cool premise it is absolutely the closest thing to gay porn I've ever seen in my life.

I must commend you guys for being pretty tolerant of your entertainment choices. Clearly no homophobes in this crowd. ;)

Must have been the guy who wanted to cuddle with Willem Defoe or possibly the scene of him in a dress.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't remember Bruce Willis wearing a dress in Die Hard.

And just so you guys know, I have no anti homosexual agenda. I got a real live and let live attitude. I just don't care to see homo stuff on film or tv.

Bog
February 20, 2003, 04:34 PM
I actually thought it was a wonderful bit of character development, especially the way Dafoe's character is still blatantly homophobic despite his tendencies.

Let's face it, this film is a trip. It's meant to be surreal (that poor kitty!)

It's not even remotely homoerotic. Hell, it's not erotic in the least!

I kinda know what people mean, if you're expecting "A Gun Flick" and you see something out of a Channel 4 Film (Trainspotting for example), then it's a shock to the system. I thought it was well used, myself

Weren't we talking about guns, anyway? :D

Chris Rhines

I don't think Dafoe's character in BS is homophobic per se. He's just a misanthropic jerk. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I first saw the bedroom scene (I was a bit intoxicated at the time, however.)

I'm looking forward to the sequel, but at the same time I'm worried that a sequel will ruin the story. Keep your fingers crossed...

Well the Melrose Place stuff aside, I thought it was pretty ridiculous. How many guys fall out of the ceiling hung up on a rope and commence to pin point shooting?

I'm not saying you can't like this movie, I'm just saying it's full of holes and over hyped. Sorta like how "Way of the Gun" was supposed to be great but in reality was kinda stupid.

Bog

Anyone taking this film seriously in any way has missed the point entirely.

Selah.

I don't see this as overtly homoerotic. I think it just makes for an interesting, not often seen, senario in an over the top movie. I like Defoe's character in this one. And if Bruce Willis would have worn a dress in Die Hard, wouldn't it have been a bit of a comic relief? Anyway, I still really like this movie, and in no way consider it to be realistic. That's what movies are supposed to be...interesting fantasy.

As usual, I am spending money because of you guys!

First it is guns, now movies!

Fantastic flick!

I guess not for all, though. If you can't stand the heat, don't cross the road...er....ahh..where IS that book of proverbs? This mix and match thing isn't working.

Great cult flick.

'Bad Television, this is like something out of bad television.'

The calm, cool, and collected FBI agent who can solve pretty much any crime gets thrown for a loop when he gets put on a case that seems to have more in common with a cop show than with any semblance of reality. (That's about the time when the cop who proposes the 'huge guy' theory starts to actually solve the crimes, and Willem's character starts to sort of go crazy.)

Chris: You did fall out of your chair. The bean bag chair. Wasn't that the night you and Justin first decided to make mint julips? You know, I really miss watching movies and drinking mint julips.:D :neener:

Am I to assume you're taking advantage of those wonderful DVD black markets I hear are so prevalent in places like Taiwan and Shanghai?
