I have Matt Burkett's Practical Shooting vol. 1-3. My interest is only in idpa. Do I need his IDPA video also? Is it primarily aimed at the beginner, intermediate or advanced competitor? How much of it is a rehash of Vol 1-3? Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't know how objective the analysis is, but the most recent issue of Dillon's 'Blue Press' (i.e., their monthly catalogue) included a review of this video. Sounded like a good bit of fairly basic/review material, but with a particularly interesting piece that just shows Matt shooting the whole classifier. Don't know if that makes the whole thing worthwhile, but you might try to find a copy of the review to read for yourself.

IMO, his IDPA dvd is aimed at a very new person who has never shot or is just beginning to shoot IDPA. There is still some good information for the experienced shooter, but I got much more out of his previous dvd's than his IDPA one.

YMMV.

Mpthole's review exactly describes my experience with the video.

Have shot lots of IDPA. Bought the 1st. set and was unimpressed.

Probably good for someone new to "Competitive" shooting but best experience can be gained from shooting IDPA & watching other good/experienced shooters at Matches.
Based on the set would not buy the individual IDPA one.

Matt's IPSC videos are must-have's. The IDPA video is, as was said, really aimed at the very new shooter.

That said, it is worth the price just to watch Matt shoot the classifier in 60-something seconds. Yowza.

it was a waste of my money..it might help someone trying to shoot the classifier but an entire dvd that isn't..

So what would you recommend to a newbie just getting ready to start USPSA? This video or the others? Does it translate well from IDPA to USPSA? Anyone looking to get rid of this video?

Thanks

Kris - I would stick to vol 1-3.

Kris- as a relative beginner, I highly recommend Matt's volumes 1-3. They are worth the money.

One thing I just discovered about his vol 5 DVD (IDPA specifically), is that when you insert it into a computer, it has 900 different Courses of Fire on it. That is a pretty cool feature. I had to read the column in the Blue Press to find that out - since I never read the cover. ;)

It's almost always worth a DVD just to watch Matt shoot.

SUPER nice guy, hell of a shooter, and a FANTASTIC instructor.

Burkett Number 4 was my favorite. Watching the pros go really fast was pretty fun.
